The real Battle between Good and Evil: Selflessness against Selfishness

in #philosophy7 years ago

Dear friends,

first of all, my motivation on steemit is not to earn money, what I like to do is to share with you some thoughts that seem important to me.

In this world it seems that whoever is the most selfish and cold-blooded is most sucessful and able to get whatever they want.

Yes, it looks like that. But let's look at this from another angle.

WHO is the one being sucessful and getting whatever this person wants? What is the identity of this person? What is the essence of this person?

In reality you can not find any essence of this person, no matter how hard you look, take a moment to reflect about this:

All the features, how beautiful this person may look, the appearance, his characteristics, his relationships, his possessions, his successes (or failures), his habits and even the thoughts are ALL very transient and ever changing.

There is nothing you can pinpoint that is beyond change and permanent. Yes, it looks like the person you see today is the person you see tomorrow but if you look really closely, it is not the same.

Granted, my self of today is very similar to my self tomorrow. And because of this similarity we assume it is the same and there is some continuity.

Because of the similarity of phenomena, we perceive them as inherently existent.

BUT: This kind of habit, perceiving yourself, people and objects around us as inherently existing prevents us from seeing how things really are: they are beyond existence and non-existence.

If things do not exist inherently we might just jump to the conclusion that things are non-existent.

But attributing non-existence upon ourselves, phenomena around us and reality itself is very dangerous and can easily lead to extreme and unethical behaviour: it is assuming that nothing exists, a reality of nothingness.

Imposing this concept of nothingness upon reality is like creating another (even more dangerous) veil of obscuration upon the experience of pure, naked reality.

Only if we go beyond the concepts of inherent existence and nothingness then we have a chance to see things more like they really are:

IT IS THE COURAGEOUS VISION OF SELFLESSNESS.

This kind of selflessness doesn't fall into nothingness or indifference but it cares. It cares deeply about others and in this way it opens you up towards real beauty and happiness.

Selflessness has a quality of courage and especially compassion. This kind of compassion is not artificial but natural, it is the natural expression of your true (selfless) nature.

Think about somebody who is truly selfless: this person has tremendous courage and power.

And think about it, this vision of selflessness is based on reality, not illusion.

Our temporary self of appearance, attributes and personal CV is just a temporary illusion: like a cloud, although it may appear to be the same cloud in different moments, it is not so.

Grasping onto the reality of a temporary cloud-like self will eventually lead to frustration.

Discovering a self beyond the deceit of seeming existence opens the door not only to a great treasury of qualities such as wisdom, compassion and true heartfelt energy.

It reveals the possibility of a completely different kind of life beyond imagination.

Do you agree? Please let me know what you think!

Amazing! I really enjoyed reading it :)
In my opinion, good and evil are just a matter of perspective (nazi's guarding the camps did not think that they do something wrong).

please check my blog Im sure you will like it based on your writing!
@paps

Thanks. Yes, I agree, absolutely good and evil do not exist, only relatively.
Relatively speaking the action might be motivated by anger, desire, jealousy or by love, compassion etc. Or, in the case of the Nazis in the concentration camp by strong ignorance, which is ignoring or being unaware of the extreme suffering that their actions cause.
Following you, looking forward to read from you!

Thank you! Im happy to have quality followers :)
