First translation into English of an anonymous condemnation of Marxism written in the Weimar Republic
Here I will transcribe and translate an interesting, roughly 90-year old German text on Marxism that had never entered the internet in text-form before my Twitter-thread https://twitter.com/LGcommaI/status/1123614399015604224. (I tried quite a lot to find the text, to no avail.)
I will manually transcribe it, then translate it. As always, I alternate between the German original and my translation, making this post more useful to people learning German.
I won't give the source, in order to protect myself (for this is a very controversial and polemical book). It shouldn't be difficult to figure out the source, even thought the original is in Fraktur type and not yet OCR-ed (as far as I can tell). Surprisingly, even Wikipedia, on rare occasions, cites this controversial source.
I repeat that the text in double-quotation-marks it is a literal from a book published during the Weimar Republic. This old book cites a journal as the original source of the text.

"Marximus [ist] staats-, gesellschaft- und kulturzerstörend [und richtet sich] gegen jeden Staat, jede Gesellschaft, jede Kultur [; mithin] ist Marxismus ein Aufruhr der Eigensucht gegen das Gemeinwohl, also das Gegenteil jedes wahren Sozialismus, denn Sozialismus muss stets das Wohl des Ganzen dem des Teiles voranstellen."
M.t. 'Marxism is detrimental to states, to societies and to cultures; Marxism is an insurgency of selfishness against the common weal, hence it is the opposite of any true socialism, for socialism must always prioritize the welfare of the whole over the welfare of the part.'

despite its LEXICAL existence, I don't think that the word "Vorfurcht" fits well here; of course I might be misunderstanding something, but I don't see how 'liberalism' can reasonably be described as a 'pre-fear'/ 'premonition' of Socialism. This cannot be a misprint of 'Vorstufe', for that word is used by the author immediately afterwards. The author appears to quote someone; I couldn't find out whom.
