Who wants change?

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

Change is a constant in life. We meet new people. We get jobs. New things are invented. We have children. We buy new things. We go on vacation. These are basic changes that deal with our personal life. We can handle this change because we are bringing it on ourselves. We choose to do these things based on our desires that motivate us to do it.

But there are things that are less personal related to us as individuals, and more universally related to the collective of society or the world. There are things that need to change. Some of them we're aware of, and some not. When we become aware of them, we want things to change.

But, are we willing to do the work to make things change? A lot of times it means we have to change things ourselves, and start with ourselves changing first. This is often unwelcome. We just want things to change without doing the work on ourselves that is often required.

One of the first places that needs to change is our thinking. If we want different results, different effects being created, then we need to change the causal source that creates that effect, and this is to change our way of thinking. If we keep thinking the same way, we will get the same results, over and over because we don't even know how to produce a different outcome. We will just keep doing things the same way because we're not thinking of how to produce different results.

The inner world needs to change before the outer world. If you want change, what are you willing to change about yourself to be a template mirror image to reflect onto the world? It starts with you. Stop being the brick that prevents change. This requires that we face ourselves more honestly, and learn how we function (psychology) and learn how the world is functioning as a result of our individual and collective behavior.

Once we understand something needs to change, we often can't do it ourselves. But that doesn't mean we can't do anything. In order for all of us to change and be on the same path, we need to share what we know. This requires sharing info. The idea needs to spread, and using words is how we can influence others. Words are magical in that they can introduce or summon ideas into someone's consciousness where that idea didn't previously exist.

But when giving people information, getting them to accept or understand can be a challenge in itself. The process of change has similarities to the stages of grief.

  1. denial of the change being necessary or even valid as an option
  2. reacting with anger at the chaotic conflict of new information clashing with the old, new way clashing with the old
  3. resisting the change through bargaining to try to hold onto the former/old/current way and not have to change so much
  4. the depression, fear and uncertainty of realizing that change does need to happen
  5. no more struggling against it, accept it and see the hope and optimism in making the change happen

We can move from the old condition to a new condition. Most everything can change. We don't need to be stuck with how things are. Things can get better, whether it's in our individual lives or all our lives together. We can empower ourselves to want to change by facing the need to change honestly, by changing our way of thinking to see the need for change.

If we don't want to see a problem, or how something can be better, then there is no chance in changing anything. Seeing ourselves and world with clarity is required. When we have something that benefits us, we often don't want to change the condition, because we benefit from it ourselves. This can make us ignore how a condition is not working out for everyone involved.

Sometime we need to step out of our subjective attachment to ourselves, our personal lives, our personal desires and whims, and look at ourselves and others together to see the better path forward. This is to look at things more objectively, where we aren't blinding to the bigger picture due to be being too attached and blinded by our ego-centrism or self-concern for ourselves while ignoring what's happening around us.

Change is often hard when it requires us to change or give up something we are attached to, comfortable with having, or think we're entitled to. But it's usually worth it when looking at the long term result and benefits that everyone can have.

Thank you for your time and attention. Peace.

Change is good...:)...

It is very difficult to change oneself because once man's mind set itself to some program, then it adapts itself to that program. Once a program is set then it becomes very difficult to change because mind has to work very hard for a change. It requires a lot of energy and efforts to reprogram hence, mind resists change and try to stick to the old program. Therefor, man sees easier to change others as it suits his program that runs his mind.
Only a few determined persons can change themselves. We call them great personalities. Buddha, Mahavira, Jesus, Gandhi, Einstein etc were such personalities who could change their program which they received from their families, societies and socio-political system.

Yes, change can be very hard. We need to deprogram ourselves ;) It's easier to keep doing what's been done. Many people can change themselves, some more than others. I've changed much through learning ;)

Learning is a tool which can bring change in us. Your thoughtful and well analysed posts always increase our knowledge and brings change in us. Thanks!

Change must first come from within one's self. Do not expect change if you are not willing to set that in motion on a personal level. Change is a neutral entity that can be used for good or evil.. Not all change is good and not all change is bad. One must have the wisdom to know the difference. Thanks @krnel.

Yes, don't embrace all change blindly lol, you can become a slave ;)

This:

If we don't want to see a problem, or how something can be better, then there is no chance in changing anything.

Absolutely. If we want a life that's better/different/happier, we've got to look at what's not working and decide that we deserve better! And then to courageously take the steps to MAKE life better.

The thing with change is that usaly commes with new generations. Usualy the eldery who have build their habits, are not prown to change. This off course is not allways the case but it is dominant behavior. Staying open to new ideas and changes is getting harder with age, as the habits are bulid and permanent connection in the brain are established.

Yes, that can be, as the old saying was made to reflect that: "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" ;)

I find this quite disturbing acctualy, thinking how will I be in my old age :)

The inner world needs to change before the outer world

This reminds me of a quote:

Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change the condition that is within themselves

This I interpret to mean that the universe will not work in our favor if we are unwilling to change ourselves. The most important change is the one that begins from within ourselves that entails a change in attitude and thinking.
However, some changes are external and out of our control and the one way to change that kind of situation is by understanding it and then making it work in our favor.
And like you rightly said we must consider other people when we are evaluating the changes we need to makes as our actions affect the people in our sphere.

so damn good that's.

There was a great quote of an Italian movie and book ‘For things to change, everything must remain the same’
It’s from the Leopard

Change is vital and we all know that, but the picture is reflecting the reality means, for example i will give very simple example as, when teacher asks, If anyone asks question what we have to give? everyone raise their hands because the answer is basic and that is Answer only, same way when Teacher asks specific question then know one raise their hands. So, it's easy to do what is basic and which is not bringing any growth to our life. Everyone is ready for the change but when it comes to them then they are not standing for it and that's the biggest problem which we are facing and if this kind of Stagnant thoughts are moved from our minds then for sure we can change our life and not only that, we can also affect and motivate others in an effective way.

And in life the most easy stuff which we do is, giving an advice and takers are very less means, if anyone guide us to change genuinely sometimes we take it as negative and this negative thoughts will hold our positive action and growth too because change is for new opportunities and it will open new exciting world where we can see many heights in life if we have courage to adopt the change.

Wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂
