We are lawful beings, like any.
In an attempt to clarify my older post about the end of criminalization here, I wish to add this statement: human behaviour is part of nature, and therefore lawful by definition. Here's what lawful means:-
Conforming to, permitted by, or recognized by law or rules.
In this case, the laws of the universe. This stance does not separate human behaviour and nature. It implies that our free-will is also one and the same with nature, which is a matrix of probable events manifesting as reality as time goes on.
Criminalization is a phenomenon that emerged out of our belief that human free-will is separate from nature, and therefore should be exercised mindfully and responsibly to avoid clashes with establishment laws. So if you're born in one of the most notorious and dangerous slums in the world, chances are you'll end up being a criminal. Consciously exercising free-will requires time, perspective, and comprehension of one's situation.
Most of the times, we can only act on just a few options. Our minds are fuzzy and limited after all. Sometimes we forget, and most of the times, we just lack all the time in the world to figure out everything in detail. Add the fact that we go on autopilot mode more than we can admit, or realize.
I think human behaviour can be elevated with a good platform design with all the right incentives. You may have qualms about social engineering, but I think it's part of understanding nature and subsequently building solutions to surpass the destructive behaviours of the old world (that are usually rewarded instead, sadly).
We are lawful and we tend to goodness, if we aren't so much victims of circumstance.
The stoic Zeno once caught a slave staling and fetched his rod to beat him up. The slave was a clever guy and had been listening in on the discussion among his masters friends, so he said: Don't beat me! By the rules of causality and determinism I was destined to steal.
And Zeno replied: That is true! Unfortunately, by the same rule of causality and determinism I am destined to bet you up.
Hahah reminds me of my conversation with the disciplinary officer at my school ages ago..
Interesting, and so I think, what is morality and where does it come from, nature or nurture?
Nature.. nurture is part of nature. Everything is nature.
