"Ways to Boost Your Will Power to Accomplish Your Personal Goals or Tasks"

in #philosophy6 years ago (edited)

If we want to accomplish a goal or a task, we must exert an effort to do it right. However, our will to do it affect us inevitably. Even how much we want to get it done for our own personal aspirations and desire, once we lose the spirit to continue pursuing it then it would already be hard for us to continue. Why? Have you ever asked yourself?

If yes, then you are not alone. Like you, I had set goals back then which I also miserably failed. So, I mitigated the reasons and realized that the problem was on myself after all. I easily lose my will to do something so suddenly. But, I managed to overcome them little by little, personally, So, how could you manage to boost your will power then on your own?

(1) The amount of confidence towards a task.

Explanation: When we know how to do a task, it gives us an assurance that we can accomplish it in the right time. Moreover, it also gives us the relief that we might not be doing the task again because we are certain that we were doing that task in the right way.

Examples: At school, when you know a certain subject or lesson, you tend to be more interested to it than the other subjects or lessons. You also like to study it more than the others because you really understand it. It gives you an assurance of learning and a higher grades.

(2) The amount of will power we think we have.

Explanation: Boosting your willpower also depends on how small or big we think we have. When we think of being limited to a single task per day, we are actually caging our self to have a limited will power. Thus, doing more than one task per day could be very exhausting for us because of our own predisposition and the limits that we had set ourselves even when we have more time to accomplish more tasks.

Examples: When you have more time to finish a certain easy school work but choose to continue to a later time since you have more time left before it must be finished. By doing it, you are actually decreasing your will power to do more complex tasks in the future that requires to be done in the same amount of time that you have right now. Thus, since you are not used to that kind of difficulty and you have limit your will power to a simpler task, you will think that you cannot accomplish that task because of how low you had limit your will power back then, even if you are physically capable of finishing it.

(3) Aligning your identity to your goals.

Explanation: Being yourself is good when you are socializing with people or when you are trying to have new friends. However, when you are trying to boost your will power, you will have to create a character within you that fits the qualities of a person that could accomplish a task or a goal. You shouldn't pretend to be someone but rather cultivate yourself to become appropriate for your task to be done. In this manner, you can accomplish your task quicker and you will never have to compel yourself to have the will to accomplish a task.

Examples: When you want to ace an exam, you need to study hard obviously. But let us accept the fact that it is exhausting to devote most of your time in studying. And you will lose your will to do it along the way. Your earnest desire and will to ace an exam will be gone and you will be contented on a passing mark instead. On the other hand, if you have establish your goals beforehand and set an identity to suit your goals, you will not lose your will to accomplish your goal in the first place. By being a topnotcher in mind, you will have the will to become one. You just have to believe you can. Be self-motivated.

(4) Practicing High Level thinking

Explanation: People who usually do frequent complex tasks or tasks that requires heavy mental labor have a higher will power than people who are always doing menial tasks ot tasks which are monotonously simple and required low level thinking. Thus, it is ideal to train our minds to difficult situations because it can increase our critical thinking more which will eventually increase our will power in the long run.

Examples: Professionals like doctors, lawyers and engineers are in the kind of pursuit that requires high-level thinking. They are also used to stress and difficult situations. They are used to complex tasks that requires long time to be done. In this practice, they have a stronger will power to accomplish the task they have to do.

(5) Dividing one complex task to simpler tasks.

Explanation: Complex task usually composed of simple tasks that are associated to each other. By setting up your goal of accomplishing a simple task in a certain period of time from a complex task instead of pressuring yourself to finish one complex task in a specified period of time, you will have the will to finish it, faster. And by doing it until all simple tasks are done, you will finish the complex task.

Example: When have an essay due tomorrow, you will usually think of accomplishing before tomorrow. Instead, you must think of finishing a paragraph of it for a certain shorter periods. In that way, you are making it less heavy for your mind to finish your essay before tomorrow. Just be realistic with those short periods of time which should be enough to finish your essay before tomorrow.
