"Life Lessons from a Cup of Coffee"

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

Stirring a hot and strong coffee is already a part of my daily algorithm since I turned into an adult. It had become a part of my daily ritual as I start to think of the things that I am going to be busy every day. Isn’t it just so fine to stand with a cup of coffee while you are staring blankly outside?

While taking it, you might be unaware but you always start to think deep. And you may not realize that drinking your coffee every morning is what preludes your busy day. It is what preludes your thinking mind. Then, you may not also realize that a cup of coffee has been always with you every day, preparing your body and mind to contend with the real world once again. While you are making life decisions or anticipating your day ahead with a cup of coffee every morning, there are life lessons that you can infer from just a mere cup of coffee that you make every day that I just realized.

"Your Endeavors in Life and a Stronger Coffee"
Have you ever tried to add more spoons of coffee granules than before and regret the taste after? Because you realized that you can’t bear its strong taste. But should you continue doing the same every day, you will eventually get used to that strong taste. Then, you realized that your decision have benefit you a little since you are not drowsy in the morning anymore.

Thinking that it might have helped you with your drowsiness, you decided to add more spoons of coffee this time. However, it had become so strong that you have trouble sleeping at a usual time at night now.

Lessons: When you experience failures in life because you are terrible at something, like flunking an exam in school or being reprimanded at work because you are inefficient, you can always improve yourself by disciplining and training yourself. You may not like the byproducts and the changes that you have made to yourself, at first, but as you stay firm with your decision to change for the better, you are now seeing improvements in yourself.

"Failure comes from ego, greed, envy, fear, imitation. I have success not because I am smart, but because I am rational."
- Warren Buffett -

As you succeed, you tend to seek more success and that is usual. So, you have tried to better at the same thing until you irrationally go beyond your capacity and you fail miserably instead. Aiming for the best is always good but being greedy at the same time can mess you up in the end. Keeping your feet on the ground and being happy for what you have are very important to maintain balance in life.

"You can’t expect everyone to like your coffee."

You might like a black coffee with no sugar but someone surely doesn’t like it because they prefer a sweet and creamy white coffee. There are a lot of coffee variants that you can buy and you had probably tried some of them. Nevertheless, you always end up to a particular choice. You always prefer to drink a particular mix or brand of coffee, instead of switching from one variant to another every day.

"Never love someone who treats you like you're ordinary."
- Oscar Wilde -

Lessons: You can’t expect everyone to like you. In your life, you may have dated a few or a lot of people that you had like for a short time. You may have mutual feelings to each other but it is temporary. However, you will meet someone that you will have intimate relationship with, for a very long time. Someone that you don’t get sick of seeing everyday.

"Coffee is best when served hot."
Unless you prefer iced coffee or frappe, coffee is usually served hot or warm. You drink it all before it gets cold because it tastes a little disgusting when it is not. However, it is still the same coffee with the same mix that you like. You might not like it now because it has lost something that it usually have. It has lost its heat.

"A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hardwork.."
- Collin Powell -

Lessons: When you are young, it is the time of your life when you educate and improve yourself to become a better person that you wanted to be as you get old. However, if you don’t utilize your acquired skills and knowledge when the right opportunity comes, it may never come again. And as you get old, you will never have the same privilege when you are young. Discover your inner potentials while you are still young and curious.

So, by the next time you’ll have a cup of coffee, ponder upon these life lessons that a simple cup of hot coffee teaches you. I may not old and experienced about life as I may sound in this blog but personally, I have been through a lot of struggles in life. May this simple yet meaningful life lessons that I have shared be an inspiration to new adults like me. The real world may not be friendly as we thought it is, but we can always have a cup of coffee with someone to make it friendlier.
