Freedom: The Long Road Ahead

It truly is a rare occasion to come across an individual who supports freedom and liberty for all others.

Billions of people are still not convinced that a free society is one that would be happier, wealthier, or more just, than current circumstances they might be familiar with; a reality and system which is firmly embedded in a foundation of coercion.

Maybe it's because people just simply have other priorities and they don't want to bother themselves with considering the morality of the violence that is inflicted in the name of the state. Or, it's that people for one reason or another can't help but want to use the state to inflict their own violence, and bring about their own causes and way of living. They need the state to keep them safe from their enemies.

Still, billions of people today need to be persuaded to accept that every individual deserves to be free and live free from the coercion and aggression of others.

But once an individual does wake-up to and accept the fact that government interference is wrong because it is unjust violence, then it's unlikely that they would go back to embracing and supporting that violence against innocent and peaceful people. In order for a free society to be realized it is still going to take billions of people being persuaded that it is wrong for any group or individual to impose their demands on any others who have committed no wrongdoing, nor violated anyone's rights etc. People have a right to be left alone.

The truth is that many people will not and have not voiced their objection to the suppression of human rights over the decades, in many cases they've demanded it. Some might take that as a sign that many people don't want to live in a free society, that they would prefer the illusion of security.

Considering the uphill battle that still remains, what a rarity it is now to find anyone out there who does embrace liberty and freedom for all, regardless of whether or not certain contracts have been rescinded, or other countries have similarly embraced freedom too, or various departments dissolved, and the popular rhetoric with the majority of the public also in favor. Supporting individual liberty doesn't require perfect circumstances, it simply requires the acceptance of the notion that you don't have any right to initiate violence against peaceful people, even if it's done in the name of the state. Maybe the reality is that many people just don't want to be free.

This. It's the sad but plain truth of things. More people want to feel safe than free.
