Deep wealth is about more than how much money you have
Deep wealth is more than money
Definition: Deep wealth is what you have that most others don't have.
Too often people think of have and have nots being about money. This in my opinion is myopic. To give an example we can take a situation where we have a very physically attractive female. This female is in a room full of males. The males pay a lot of attention to her because she has something most of them want and is desirable.
This desirability can also become a liability. This attractive female may have to deal with increased risk of being harassed. If we reconfigure this situation so that there are five females each ranked by physical attractiveness so that their desirability levels are unequal, then what likely goes on in the mind of the females who for lack of better terms did not win the "beauty pageant"?
This breeds jealousy, envy, hatred even. This is to point out the fact that attractiveness such as being born beautiful, is indeed a kind of wealth. Not only is it a kind of wealth but it's something people are born with in greater or lesser extents. I use this example because it's an obvious example but it's not the only example. The point being, the physically beautiful (male or female) is desirable, but not always in a good way.
The next example I will use is the genius. A genius is the person who has a lot of brain power. This person may or may not have been born with it but one thing is clear, they have something most others don't have. This could be they just have more wisdom than most others. This genius in a room with hundreds or thousands of others is going to stand out in the same way the beautiful woman stands out. This genius of the room is going to be seen as useful and be desired by others just as Marilyn Monroe was once one of the most desired women. This is to say Einstein and Monroe had this desirability in common because they were not common.
Understanding deep wealth can allow a person to understand it's not just about how much money is or isn't in our pockets. It's about what we have that others don't have. This could be access to quality information. This could be knowledge acquired from many years of studying. This could be extraordinary athleticism, strength, toughness. This could extraordinary be compassion, empathy, moral instincts. Anything a person has that most others don't is a kind of deep wealth.
Do agree gifts can be a blessing or a curse depending on the situation. I once considered an occupation in social work. After some study I realized that my empathetic nature could be as much a liability as asset. A higher level of self care would be required to not let the job leave me in the doldrums. The satisfaction of helping would be overcome by the feelings of loss and misery that they would be seeking council for. I changed my path after much thought on taking up the challenge.
This relative economics wherein your gifts (or disgifts, not a word but hopefully understandable) are amplified in relative terms. It's when we start comparing when we find more/less value to what we possess. It's going to be working on both direction, but that's how it works. And sometimes, even if we say "we should not compare", it's difficult because we live in a world full of comparisons.
Young people are rich. They have more time left than old people, and since you cannot buy time it is worth more than anything else.
In an aging society such as Japan this eventually becomes true.
True wealth in my own view is a deep connection to all beings and all things. It cannot and should not be purchased. It is obtained and not bought. It is given freely and not sold. True currency is our connection to people that value the same things. It is an agreement that says I will be there with what I have and who I am to assist you in whatever you need. If I cannot do this then hopefully I have a connection to someone who can. It means we have to value our relationships more than we value our money. Because if money is the only thing that binds us, we will be lost to each other when the money is gone.
True wealth to my opinion is one's ability to feel wealthy.
if you possess extraordinary beauty but you do not have much joy from it, can you say its wealth?
if you have a lot of money but you do not enjoy it, is it wealth?
if you are stronger then other people, but you work very hard for your living, is that wealth?
On the other hand, you can have an average income, be medium strong and have average beauty, but you feel happy - now this is true wealth!
I could recollect this after I read your blog - Luxury is all that money can't buy.
Even the way we speak differs from person to person. One speaks words giving inspiration, others discouraging.
But it is in each of us to spell our way and along the way encourage others to love what they do.
Thank you for sharing! Keep sowing truth!
If we could only focus the attention of society more on the gifts that are truly important in relation to societal progress such as the compassion, empathy and moral instincts which you mentioned, then maybe all of us would get the opportunity to discover and appreciate the true gift of life itself.
