Philosophical Discussion Panel; Can hearts be homeless?

When you hear the word "homeless", what do you think of?

Most likely, the first things that come to mind are people who can not take care of themselves financially, people who are drug addicts and/or alcoholics, people who live on the streets and people who live in shelters.

Perhaps you think of homeless people as people who are just "too lazy to get a job".

Perhaps you think that these people are unworthy of your attention, or even your pity.

Perhaps you think of them as the lowest rung on the ladder that is society.

Perhaps you think of them as the skum of the earth.

Yet, in truth, homeless people are just people who do not have the financial stability to afford a physical home; and since land is mostly owned by corporations and governments, they cannot just build a home in the wild.

It will get torn down and destroyed because you do not have the right to inhabit the same land you were born with the God-given right to inhabit...

The truth is that most people are just a cheque away from becoming homeless.

And perhaps homelessness is not as dramatized as we allow it to be.

Its a problem we have engineered.

And therefore, there are many - very simple -solutions to this problem.

(of course they are ignored)

And yet...perhaps there exists a deeper, less seen type of homelessness that effects almost all of us on an unseen level...

Most of us have heard the saying, " Home is where your heart is".

This statement is true, and to me it means that whatever you love to do; that it where your heart is (or should be).

If you are always doing what you love and always cultivating an air of self-love and confidence by doing so, then you are always in your heart: you are always home.

Whenever you are doing something that you do not love and that doesn't serve you - when you are experiencing depression, envy, anxiety or fear - you are moving away from that space in your heart that makes you feel "home".

It doesn't matter what situation you are in or how much money you have, if you are doing what you love and perfecting your being; you are home.

For example,

Lets say you love to paint, yet suddenly you become physically homeless. Now there is no where for you to paint and you feel depressed and lonely and sad and worthless.

Moving through these emotions - however - you realize that the reason you feel this way is not just because you are suddenly homeless, but also because you are not doing what you love.

Recognizing this, you decide to persevere and rent out a storage facility for $1. The promotion is $1 for the first month and you plan to end your contract after the first month because you do not plan on being homeless for that long.

You decide you can paint in the storage locker and produce wonderful masterpieces.

You then begin to sell your art on ebay and make $2000 within that same month.

Suddenly, you do not even recognize you are homeless physically: because your heart is home.

Are you a wandering heart?

In this example we can see that the most important thing in life is to follow your joy. To follow your passion and to listen to your heart.

Life is about exploration, learning, experiencing adventure, loving, and becoming.

You you cease the flow of your hearts journey, you cut off your hearts connection to home.

You become a homeless heart.

If I can give you one piece of advice as a 20 year old man, it would be to follow your passion and to,

#houseyourheart ,

by doing so.

Do what brings you joy!

Dear @coloured-content! Very useful. Thanks!

I am so sorry, I have been extremely scattered today. I saw your comment and not only did I intend to come here and check it out, I was looking forward to it. But things kept coming up one after another. If you're awake/around, meet me in chat in about fifteen minutes-have to say goodbye to a couple of friends-but I have an idea for this. And if you're not around tonight, I'll leave the idea in chat and we can talk tomorrow.

You do hit on some great points here. I had a few different, semi-unrelated things that came to mind.

  1. This reminds me a lot of a documentary called "Dark Days" that was about the homeless in New York City, not only those living in the streets but also those living in the sewers. While I wouldn't think many of them would call their situation ideal, just about all of them seemed to find some sense of normalcy, just in the sense of finding methods to get buy and find enough contentment in what they do. Even in those difficult situations, people still find a way versus the outsider perception that the homeless are always wallowing in sorrow.

  2. Many llamas in Tibet (prior to the Chinese takeover) would travel around, stopping periodically to stay with people who open their homes for them. Technically these traveling 'monks' would be homeless, simply because they don't have a place to return to on a whim nor a place to store their stuff. While I can't say all Buddhists actually act on this, but in their ideal, they are told to strive to 'not want stuff' which would massively reduce the need to have a place to store and protect said stuff. (This is in line with what you said on people doing 'what is in their heart' regarding the travelling llamas.)

  3. While I wouldn't say I'd be ready to not live in a house/apartment/etc...I do see us having a lot of our security within them. Not only is a place to store our stuff and protect said stuff...it also is a place for us to 'remove ourselves from the world' for various reasons. A lot of our society seems to have a diabolical view of our surroundings, whether someones gonna hurt me, steal from me, etc. I can't say these people are wrong in that there are 'bad' individuals out there, but I would think these would be the minority, yet we change various parts of our lives around them. It's kind of sad we live in an 'Age of Insurance,' ...the idea of security trumps all for so many.

You shouldn't give me steem when my contribution was to ask you to go to chat! lol! Did you happen to see my message?

Also, there's an original tag contest going on, hosted by @the-future. Since you don't tend to use a lot of main tags, you should definitely enter it...in this case you would have just put houseyourheart first, then you could have used life next because that will give you more exposure and it's completely appropriate. Then you just have to put originaltag last. There's an originaltag place in chat that you paste the link in. I think they have first, second, and third prize winners, and the pot keeps getting bigger every week.

But I do hope you get a chance to check in chat, and we can discuss a few things :)

My apologies, your loveliness,

I'll check my chat.
