PATRON SAINT OF THE DAY: For Swordsmen
The 12th of January is the feast of Saint Bernard of Corleone.
Born in Sicily in the 1600's, Bernard was the son of a shoemaker and also entered the trade. He also became very adept at swordsmanship and would regularly challenge anyone who insulted him. After almost killing a man, Bernard fled to a nearby Capuchin monastery and join their order. To pay penance for his transgressions, Bernard was known to flagellate himself until he bled at least 7 times per day.
Saint Bernard of Corleone, ora pro nobis!
