A Trip to the City of Bananas (Panabo City)

in #philippines7 years ago

Each day pilots all around Mindanao wake up early to soar high to make our most exported product BANANA in good shape.

Originally the rich lowland was inhabited by a group of stocky-haired natives called Aetas. These people led nomadic life and lived by hunting. With the use of their most essential tool, the bow and arrow—"pana-sa-boboy" as they call it—they hunted for food which primarily consisted of rootcrops and meat of wild boars.

Being an agro-industrial city, Panabo is known as the "Banana Capital of the Philippines" due to numerous banana plantations scattered throughout the city. In fact, Panabo is the home of the world’s biggest banana plantation, which is owned by the Tagum Agricultural Development Company (TADECO), which covers around 6,900 hectares of banana fields and produce millions of boxes of export-quality bananas annually. The city itself cultivated 40% of its land or around 10,000 hectares into planting export-quality Cavendish bananas. Thus, banana cultivation and exportation are the main economic lifeblood of the city. [Sauce]

WOW! i never knew this was its history.

Today we had to travel about 1-2 hours to get to the plantation area, we will conduct a site visit on the area and check what is happening and whereabouts on the said area.

Mainly the source of income of the company I work with is on aerial spraying, it is used for mass spraying huge amount of banana trees to prevent SIGATOKA virus, a sickness on banana.

As we conduct our visit, you can feel the rush of the moment when pilot and its crew going through operation. The whole team is working in synergy. They work so hard and safely too for them to provide the World Class Bananas.

The gushing of the wind from the propeller blades and the roaring engines i hear on the plane made me think that this is not an easy job. For every time I think of bananas, I think of them. The hard work and dedication they made to provide us such tasteful product that goes around the globe.
