“Palaro ng Lahi” The Game that was left behind
I can say that in today’s daily activities of children gadgets and social media are the main source of their happiness. Even a two-year-old boy or girl can manipulate gadgets to watch cartoons in YouTube; they can play any games in their gadgets. Many elementary pupils are going to computer shop every afternoon to update their social media accounts. Some parents are contended to see their children playing gadgets inside their home because they know that their children are safe inside their home.
I know that it is not safe outside our home because of different crimes that surround in our community. Even the person we hired to take care our children can bring chaos and dangers to our life. But if we will not take the chance they will miss the real life of children outside their homes. They do not experience to have sweat because of running, jumping, and tumbling in some grassland area in their community.
Gladly, last week the Department of Education showcased the “Palaro ng Lahi”. They implemented the “Palaro ng Lahi” Nationwide. Every pupil got the chance to play the traditional games like “patintero”, “babaran”, “Luksong Lubid”, Luksong Tinik”, “Chinese Garter” and “Luksong Baka”. I can see that all pupils are excited to start each game.
To begin the “Palaro ng Lahi” every section performed their yell to start the day lively. Every pupil got the chance to experience the traditional Pilipino Games that day.
“Palaro ng Lahi” did not only showcase the traditional Pilipino Games but it also caters camaraderie, teamwork, and sportsmanship among ten sections of Grade 5 in our school.
Being a teacher and one of the facilitators of “Palaro ng Lahi” in our school saw the different faces of our students every time they win and lose the game. At the end of the day, I am very thankful that the Department of Education engaged this kind of program in every school.
This program will help our children to realize that there are many games to be played outside their homes that can really help them to have a strong and healthy body. These games will serve as an exercise while they are playing. Just remember to keep your children guided at all times, set guidelines every time they will play outside and the best is to experience these traditional games with the whole family.
