My Modern Day National Heroes as the Philippines celebrates National Heroes Day today
Philippines' National Heroes' Day, a national public holiday in the Philippines, is held on the last Monday of every August to mark the anniversary of the Cry of Pugad Lawin, the beginning of the Philippine Revolution by the Katipunan and its Supremo Andrés Bonifacio in 1896. Because it is a holiday, no work in offices, no classes in schools to commemorate the martyrdom of our ancestors who fought for our freedom as an independent nation.
But this holiday holds a special meaning for everyone today specially in this time of pandemic. The real modern day heroes are the medical frontliners who are the Doctors, Nurses and Hospital Workers. Followed by the non medical frontliners who are the police officers, army, volunteers, supermarket staff, transport employees etc.
I would like to include in this heroic list the STREET VENDORS ! They are also heroes for they brave the pandemic by going out on the streets everyday just to be able to bring food supply to families who cant leave their homes to buy their daily needs. These vendors also have their own families to support thats why they will fight the chance of getting sick & not be afraid of getting infected just to be able to bring home some food & money on their own tables. My all out respect & gratitude to these street vendors...the real national heroes of today !

May God bless you and keep you safe.
