Peace be upon you all my dear steem mates.If you are reading this blog, that means you are a pigeon lover as well.And there is a high possibility that you have pigeons at your home.How are they doing?
This blog is about the facts about pigeons they many of us know or some of us may not know.We all have the right to know the unknown right? In fact, that is what kept us going as human being. I don't intend to waste your precious time.So, let's head toward the main topic:

Origin

Pigeons are the evolved form of rock dove.I am sure that you've heard about the extinct bird Dodo.

I don't know if you know it or not but this flightless bird was actually a pigeon.Like I said, pigeons are originated from the rock dove.That's the reason why they look lot like doves.

Life-cycle

I am pretty sure many of you already know that animals or birds that we keep as pets live less than they do in nature.Pigeons are no different.In nature, pigeons can live upto 13-14 years.But unfortunately, they live like only 4-5 years as pets.

The life time as pet can be extended with proper care but they won't live that much as they do in nature.All their foods come directly from nature.So, they are healthier in nature than with us.

Life-Partner

Generally they choose only one partner in the wild and spend the rest of their lives together.However, if something happens to the male or the female, they can change their partners.Let's hope that this never happen.

The male does the work to build the nest.The female sometimes decorates the nest.They only choose the safe place to build their nests.In cities, there is a chance that you will find wild pigeons in abandoned factories or residents.

Foods

Pigeons live on grains.They only eats seeds in the wild.However, wild pigeons in cities are found eating many sorts of foods.There is a chance that you will find them eating fast food from the garbage.

but they do it if they can't find seeds.There are some people who likes to feed seeds to pigeons.You will find them in parks feeding pigeons breads or seeds.I hope you will do the same.Because they are an important part of the nature and we must help them survive to maintain the balance of peace and harmony.

Varieties

There are over 300 species of pigeons.Some of them are so beautiful that they have claimed place among the most beautiful birds in the world.

Some of them have nearly extincted.We need to do something and we need to do it fast.It would be a shame for us, nature lovers if we can't even save the beauty of it.To do that, we need to stop thinking business with these pigeons and focus on increasing the quantity of them and free them in nature.But the problem is most of the pigeon breeders including pigeon lovers(pigeon breeders doesn't mean pigeon lovers) think of pigeons as their business.Money sure got us badly.

Parenting

As pets, female pigeons lay first eggs after 8-10 days after first time mating.Both male and female pigeons incubate their eggs term to term.They lay 2 eggs containing 1 male and 1 female.Pigeons' eggs take 18-20 days to hatch.The first egg is the male and the second egg is the female.

Pigeons surely are great parents.They take proper care of their chicks until they can eat seeds on their own.Parent pigeons feed a special kind of milk that they produce with the seeds they eat and feed it to their chicks.

They give their hearts and souls to raise their chicks.But unfortunately their chick do not survive all the time.Chicks are very sensitive.Any kind of abnormality can cost their lives.

Taming

Yes, pigeons can be tamed.They will respond to your call if you deserve it.Although wild pigeons are far from being tamed.But still, you can feed them at parks or gardens.If you are trust worthy, they won't be scared of you.In fact, they will accept you.All you need to do is stop provoking them and they will smooth with you.

Taming house pigeons is not an easy task but you become successful, it's worth it.
