Bird's-foot trefoil is a common flowering plant in Europe and northern Africa. It's usually hairless with solid stems, which carry an umbel of 2 - 7 flowers, which are bright yellow.
Wasps, bees and butterflies are attracted to this plant which flowers from April to September.
This plant is considered edible and medicinal, but all parts of this plant are poisonous. All parts contain toxic substances called hydrogen cyanide. When used in large amounts, cyanide may result in the failure of the respiratory systems, sometimes even causing death. However, when used in small amounts, it has a sedative effect. It could help patients with nervous disorders, heart palpitations, long term depression and sleep disorders as insomnia.
