Quotes, Interpretations & Thoughts Vol. 3 - Change

We are living in a world that is moving so fast and in which change is a main ingredient, whether we like it or not... It can be found everywhere in our busy lives, but also in nature itself -from the seeds that become plants and trees, to caterpillars becoming butterflies.
Change also happens even without noticing it: our body's cells are constantly changing -some in few days, some in weeks/months and some in a year or years. Source

Even though change is a part of our lives in various forms, there are people who cannot tolerate change and they get stressed only by the thought that something could change in their life.
Sadly, I believe that people who don't like changes are much more than those who do not. I use the word sadly, because resisting change is as if you are resisting nature.

Today's quote

You understand that today's quote could not be referring to anything else other than change. It's actually one of my favorite quotes ever because it reflects my attitude towards life:

change is the only constant.png

*This quote is attributed to Heraclitus, even though wikipedia says that it is a modern paraphrase upon his famous assertion that "everything changes" rather than a phrase literally said by him.

What is change

According to dictionary.com, change is

  • the act or fact of changing; fact of being changed
  • a transformation or modification
  • a variation or deviation
  • the substitution of one thing for another
  • variety or novelty
  • the passing from one place, state, form, or phase to another.

In whatever form of the above it may appears, I personally separate change in two main categories:

  1. The change we initiate.
  2. The change that occurs.

The change we initiate

This kind of change is an outcome of our nature as human beings to either seek pleasure or avoid pain.
Whenever we are in a situation that is not giving us pleasure or even worse is a painful one, it's more than natural to seek ways to change it. These kind of situations could be a relationship that is not working anymore or it has become an abusive one, a job that is not satisfying anymore, etc.

Unfortunately, many people do not find the courage to change these kind of situations because they are afraid of what the change might bring to them. It's called the fear of the unknown.
They prefer to stay in a non-satisfying environment or even worse to an abusive one, because it's something that they are familiar with...

I hope that if you ever find your self in a situation like that, you will find the courage to seek for something better knowing that the universe will manage to reward your courage by bringing the right people and the right circumstances in your way.

The change that occurs

In this fast moving world, most people live their lives on auto-pilot. What I mean is that life obligations, our jobs/businesses, errands that must be completed and many other everyday tasks, are creating a routine in which people are operating like machines, forgetting that life has so many other sides and aspects...
Whenever something occurs that breaks this well adjusted and used-to routine, people feels shocked. And whenever something like that happens they tend to blame the circumstances and their luck.

Let's take a quite extreme example of someone losing their job because the company has decided to fire them. Definitely not a pleasant situation, nor an easy one to be in... If they choose to see them selves as victims, blame their boss or their luck, they restrict themselves from opening to new possibilities.

I know it's not the easiest thing to do when it happens, but it's doable. You only need to think that everything happens for a reason and as Steve Jobs said, "you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards".
I guess you heard the saying "when one door closes another door opens" by Alexander Graham Bell... Who would you rather be, the one who so long and so regretfully looks upon the closed door or the one that is searching to see the new ones that open?

Change is the only constant and the only constant is change...
Changes will be happening all the time whether we want it or not...
It's only when we embrace change that we will be able to see the doors that are opening ahead us!

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you found even the slightest of value in this reading.

Until the next time, keep smiling, enjoy life and be happy!

Very well said! Thanks for stopping by @agaph!

Great post-Michael and a great topic, It's not what happens its what we do with it so yes change will happen and it is up to us on how we deal with it. And then we have the change that is up to us to make and YES sometimes difficult but just know that we always have choices and most times the only way we learn is by new changes in our life, Don't feel you have totoleratee change...EMBRACE it and know you are probably growing through it.
