Periodontal pocket :
(a) Definition: A periodontal pocket is a pathological gingival sulcus that has been dependent by apical migration of the functional epithelium and destruction of periodontal ligaments and alveolar bone.
(b) Causes of periodontal pocket:
(1) Deposition of the huge amount of the calculus in the apical direction of the tooth
(ii) Apical migration of the functional epithelium
(iii) Break of the lingual continuity of the interdental gingival.
(iv) Loss of the bone due to periodontitis.
(1) Treatment of periodontal pockets:
(i) Successful treatment depends upon thorough supragingival and subgingival plaque removal.
(ii) The latter may be achieved by subgingival scaling or root planning.
