The Ungrateful Colleague
So, I shortlisted an accountant for the factory and he got selected for the job, and this is his first payback:
For the past 2 weeks, I'm dropping him at the nearest metro station saving him over an hour in the bus not to mention walking about a kilometer to the bus station and then waiting for the bus, it's adding 10 to 15 minutes for me each time in the car but was feeling OK helping the guy until he moves to somewhere near, even yesterday I sent him in my car with the foreman to look for accommodation nearby and they spent about 3 hours and most of my car's fuel tank in vain.
Today I asked him what's his daily final stop in the metro and he said it's Union station on the other side of the city, I told him that's perfect, an event is happening there end of the week and he could drop our contribution bags as sponsors of the event packed in 1 bag of maximum 5 kg which he only needs to carry it when boarding and leaving the metro, I'll drop him at the metro stop as usual and someone from the event will pick it up from him at Union, he will also be the one issuing the invoice and delivery order accordingly as samples for his system.
That would save me the trip to the other side of the city from my place and back, we're talking about literally over an hour drive on either way.
He simply looked at me and said: sorry, it's not my job.. I said: it's on your way and someone will pick it from you there, he repeated: it's not my job, you deliver it..
It's not my job either to deliver it but I am being the proactive me for the benefit of all..
I said: no issues, you're an accountant and limited to your job, he said yes and resumed his work on the computer.
After finishing my work, I simply packed my stuff and drove home, he will be taking the bus.
And I'm still in the state of shock about his response, and not that we're numerous at work, it's only 3 of us in the same office and there are less than 10 others across the factory.
