Changing times

Times are changing. The time when the guys were too demanding are far gone, at least in urban areas. The times when a guy and his family had to be treated like royals just so that he marries their daughter is a passe. Today, girls are more choosy than boys. Earlier the guys rejected the girls, but today guys get rejected by girls.

My mum is a part time match maker who works to get the poor girls married to guys who are financially well settled , but are not able to get married to girls from their status because of reasons like holding a business as a source of income, not educated enough, have ailing parents, they don't live in metro city etc etc. The reasons are bizzare. So, my mom though she could help the guys meet the girls for no fee, she works for the society. She got a good data base of young and middle aged girls who were so poor that they couldn't afford 4 square meals a day. Would be groom's were told well in advance that the entire marriage expenses would be on their shoulders because the girls were not financially well off. The guys agreed saying they had absolutely no demands.

To my mom's shock, the guys didn't have preferences, but the girls had. One young girl of 21 years was introduced to a 27 year old guy. The girl was so poor that she couldn't afford a cup of tea when the guy came to meet her. She told him that she wanted a car and a house to live in and the guy said he has it all. They seemed happy, but my mom later got a call from the girl saying she wants more options because the guy had a bald patch on his head.

My mom was shocked to the core. She hardly had anything at home and this guy who had everything she could ever want rejected him just for a bald patch. My mom tried to reason it with her explaining her that the bald patch can appear on anyone's head even after marriage, but she was not ready to budge.

The guy still remains unmarried, while the girl got a match and is getting married next month.
