I just moved to Portland less than a year ago, as a decade old child welfare worker from Florida. I originally had high hopes of being employed with them, thinking they would be more open to children and parents staying together, unlike some issues I had as an investigator in Florida.

I applied to over 200 positions, and attended over 60 interviews. The more I learned about their character, the less attractive they seemed to be when it comes to keeping children and families intact.

I was notified that there is a special law here, that only exists in one other state. You can call in a report for potential harm, with zero evidence of it happening, and an investigation is opened on your family. That is too much involvement in families, continuing to traumatize them with interviews, assessments, safety plans, of an event that hasn't even occurred.
