Power Up or Power Down - Either way it's the Whales fault
In my post the other day I stated that minnows should power up . That they should not power down . I have received some comments , and as a result I think that I should clarify my position so that there is no misunderstanding .
We all come from different parts of the world and the economy differs widely . Between the cost of living and the everyday cost of life is an expense . We all need money to survive and live . I understand it , I think we all do get it . Some of the comment seem to think that I am unaware of people's plight .
Why I say people should power up
Powering up will put you in a better financial position in the future . Invest in yourself . If you even put 10 dollars a month away it will create a better future for you . It will enable you to reap larger rewards from your efforts here on Steemit over a period of time. Become a member of the community and one way to do this is to power up and support the community . Voting for witness , engaging , commenting and assisting others is a way to say yes I am a member of this community .
Community
Why should people support you if you only take from the system . That's a fair question for people to ask who gives you votes . Your posts or comments have a value of 0.00 until it is upvoted . Do you somehow deserve the votes of others ? More worthy than the next person . What benefit are you to the community ? This is a community . A community of people from all walks of life sharing and engaging with each other and yes , sharing in a reward . But also helping each other in hard times .
Why people should upvote and follow you
Why should they ? Is there something that entitles you to a following ? Maybe your BS is better than the next .

There is the same exact comment from two people who have a combined voting weight of 0.00 at 100% and a following of around 0 who have more voting weight then 0.00 . I don't speak for Whales but a whale has to be out of his mind not to say I want to support them two guys . Let me jump on that bandwagon . As for a minnow there your path to a Lambo . LOL I see this nonsense all the time .
Begging how's that working out for you . upvote me and I will upvote you with my 0.00 vote . Think about that . Do you really think that that has any appeal . Do you think that people need a reminder that they have an option to give you a vote, restreem or follow you .
No one here owes you anything . You are also not entitled to anything here . remember that and conduct yourself accordingly .
How to become a community member
People upvote you not because of a post or a comment but for who you are . What you stand for . Sure you can get the a vote here and there but over the long run it boils down to what I just said.
Be active ,learn and grow .Be a responsible member . It is no different than any other community or family. People will notice . It will not happen overnight , It takes time to see who you are . There are no shortcuts . At the end of the day it is your option to do as you wish , Just don't blame anyone except the one in the mirror for what you reap .
This has gotten a little longer and more of a rant then a clarification but it is what it is . My opinion and observation in a rare form. I vote a lot to support minnows . And I vote above the dust so minnows get the reward . I want you to succeed and in return get to a position to help others that come behind you . But you have to commit also .
Well said @wolfhart. (don't worry @dustsweeper will/should make up for my crappy upvote) I don't have too much further to go to power up to make it worth it. It's just getting the money there.
I completely agree people think that if they follow you, you owe them something, nope. I want people to follow me that like what I have to say and support me most of all are willing to engage. It was suggested to me in the beginning to follow everyone who followed me, the WORST mistake I have made. Now I'm having to clean house.
If you want to make anything of yourself on here...you have to commit. You have to be consistent. You have to work at it.
I did the same silly crap and cleaned my list the first month . Still trying to recover from it and miss people's posts .
This is work . and yess commit and being consistent will help

The community and the investment opportunity are what sets this apart from every other social media site. It's also what makes it enjoyable for me. I can risk very little monetarily and still see my investment grow.
The earnings gamify the experience and the community gives it life.
The communities here are real. It's something I can't get over because it's so rare. It's rare to be a part of something that is 100% virtual but feels like real human interaction. It only takes a few breadcrumbs left in the direction of a good community to make the STEEM experience an amazing one.
Things are weird and on the surface this place looks like nothing special until you find your people. I've found my people and I recognize the amazing earning opportunities we have here. I'm all in.

I think this is a great post and did not take it as a rant at all. The world in general would be a much better place if we all put our differences aside and help each other.
Unfortunately, not everyone understands that when you pay it forward, karma pays you back in a good way and both parties succeed.

Wait, my college professor said that everyone is a winner. I have the trophy to prove it. Everyone knows it is the fault of the 1% (whales). It is high time we focus on the earning inequality between the whales and those of us down here. Just because their accounts are worth thousands to hundreds of thousands doesn't mean they should have higher rewards. All of this talk of responsibility sounds very oppressive.
Just kidding. A true picture of how the site works. Members are not equal, not all posts by a member are equal. Nothing is guaranteed, except if you don't try your best you should expect your results to reflect it.
LOL and Steemit should be a "SAFE SPACE " so no one gets their feelings hurt by someone's opinion

This has been heavy on my mind. So Would you suggest trading in all the steem dollars to power up ? I hate giving dust votes and want to work my way up so that I can help the community better.
I do , but when is the question . you do want to maximize the exchange rate. but on the other hand it not like I'm cashing in that much either . My goal is to reach 500 SP then I will set another

yes we are all here from various community, some are poor and some are rich and I agree with your opinion in investing funds in steemit
