Watching the insanity of the season - a #payitforward post
So here I am...
I just finished up a Christmas Eve work shift and I'm sitting in Starbucks waiting for my husband to pick me up after he gets out of work. Thank goodness for free wifi and semi-comfortable seats... and coffee! No, the coffee isn't free but the front-row seat on social behavior during the holidays is kind of amusing.

and an apology for not being present the last few days. If you read my post My JOB is really cutting into my Steemit time! you will know that I haven't worked a retail job in a few years. Being on my feet moving, talking to people, smiling... It's flippin' exhausting!
I've literally come home feeling like this:
So, if you've left comments, sent a Steem.chat, tried to find me anywhere on social media... Yeah... No. This little lady was passed out spooning my very upset puppies. Plus, it's hard to get acclimated when you're working an opening shift and then practically a closing shift the next day.
I think the only reason I'm conscious right now is because I'm sitting at a table watching the world go by instead of being bra-less and shoe-less in the comfort of my home.
I MISS YOU.
I'm not ignoring you.
I promise.

Where was I...?
Ah, yes - social behavior during the holiday season and watching the world go by...
Young and old, they filter in searching for the best deals on picked over items and clearance deals searching for the "best" presents their budget can afford.
Considering it is the day before the "big present reveal" and so many shoppers still have hours of wrapping to look forward to, there is a sense of calm. They're either very happy with their finds or they've simply given up; the attitude "This will do."
Finding the perfect gift for a specific individual doesn't seem to exist anymore. Forget crafting one's own gifts!
Nope. That doesn't seem to exist at all.
It's all about putting something - anything - under the tree.
Perhaps that's why there isn't any last minute panic?
Does anyone really give a shit?
Don't get me wrong, thanks to the holidays, I currently have a job. I suppose I'm thankful for that because I'm meeting some really cool people at work and this side of retail is pretty easy. Seriously.
You don't know hard retail work until you've been on your feet for 15+ hours working around food and/or alcohol.
The hardest part of my job is getting a price check because the guest says they saw a sign that it was 50% off or something ridiculous, you know...
...because arguing twice as hard for a gift they half want is so worth it! LOL
Oh ye sad, programmed people, corporate headquarters loves you...
And so do I.
Come frolic with me 'til the New Year!

Hi @merej99 - just stopping by to wish you a merry Christmas :)
Thank you. Tim!
I hope your holiday festivities are stress-free and filled with a lot of R&R.
It seems like they will be :) Same to you!
Happy Holidays!
Thank you @michaelstobiersk! Happy Holidays back to you too.
I'll be swinging by your posts now that I'm awake. LOL
Merry Christmas Meredith.....take a load off tonight...take it easy.....and enjoy.
We're doing Chinese take-out and I have booze. Tomorrow - a whole entire day in my jammies!
I'm so happy! LOL What about you? do I call you Deb or Deborah...or am I a complete ass and have your name completely wrong?
You're adorable...my name is Deborah....I am having the family over tomorrow and thankfully we don't dress up.....I'll prob just wear a big sweater and tights and my mukluks....I know....I'm an old hippie. It's very rare that I dress up and when I do I feel like I have way too much makeup on or something....like a little girl who wears lipstick....lol.
We are having some nice shiraz and cheese and crackers and grapes...the chocolate is coming out next...and are watching a cheesy B christmas movie....All I Want for Christmas - so 70s fashion.
Maybe I'll get out for a walk tomorrow before the son and family arrive. We are having roast for a change and gingerbread cake for dessert. And fruit...ha...who am I kidding? Then I am joining WW - to lose the weight I gained last year that I lost the year prior.....no wonder they stay in business - just for me :)
I hear there is plenty of fruit in wine. Grapes, in fact! Grapes are good for you, right? LOL
I do love a good shiraz and I definitely want to see the Christmas sweater and mukluks! You're a hoot. The trick to make-up is putting on a ton of it so you look "natural".
I think I want to come to your house for dinner! I still don't know what I'm cooking. Would I be completely evil if I ordered Chinese food?
Noooooo....we've done that in that past.....go for it!!! Order Chinese food.... There are no rules when it comes to spending time with family - well....some but none.
Putting on a ton of make up like say, bright blue or green eye shadow? That's natural - those colours occur in nature....
One day, when I come to Florida, we'll "do" lunch.I'll drive up the coast and meet halfway somewhere and we can sit and trade make up and fashion ideas.
....and drink grapes....but only a bit bc we'd have to drive.
I just watched the youtube bit of Christmas Story - I don't remember that part - lol...I have to get me one of those cleavers.....
at first I thought it was going to read... "I'm sitting in Starbucks waiting for @runridefly to finish up on the caffe latte that I ordered." :)
Oh my gosh, that would be funny. I still don't understand Starbucks lingo.
I still can't believe I have to say "tall dark fresh-brewed" when I really want to say "pour strong black coffee in the cup." LOL
I love people watching! Starbucks is one of the best places to do this too.
I'm still waiting for hubby. At this point, the ONLY people smiling are the associates who are going home and the kids who know they're opening presents tomorrow! I wonder what the 10PM shoppers are going to look like? LOL
hahahah the 10 pm shoppers are going to be frazzled for sure!
LOL!!
Merry Christmas:)
Hey, Karen! It's getting close to Christmas on your side of the pond, isn't it? Does anyone have the Santa tracker? LOL
Merry Christmas to you too. XOXOX
Yeah 45 mins away. The santa tracker is on Facebook. Merry Christmas him xoxo
I want you to know that I miss you my great friend @ merej99.
May these feasts come loaded with love, peace, health and prosperity, for you and your loved ones.
Merry Christmas
@jlufer - have a blessed Christmas filled with wonderful food and the company of loved ones. Hugs and kisses to your beautiful grandchildren too.
@merej99, you look great.
Aw, thanks, @runridefly
With the bags under my eyes, you'd think I was Santa! LOL
I have commented on your stuff and wondered where you were and also, I am bra less and shoe less currently as well.
Merry Christmas to you guys. Like I said recently on a post of yours, I am still thinking of your heavy Christmas season post the other day, honestly, -- daily
It's a busy time of year, that's for sure! Enjoy your day tomorrow - relax to the max! Merry Christmas - and here's to a great 2017, too!
And if you are going back to Target to help handle returns after Christmas, good luck! : )
