SLC21-W5 // Gelatina
I am @hudamalik20 from Pakistan. How are you all? I hope you are all doing well and achieving great things in your life. Today, I am excited to participate in the SLC21-W5 // Gelatina contest organized by @dasudi.
Have you ever prepared gelatin at home? Tell us about your experience.
Yes, I have prepared gelatin at home, and it was an interesting experience. When I first started cooking, I was very fond of making desserts. I came across a YouTube video that showed how to make a delicious dessert using custard and gelatin. Until then, I had only eaten ready-made gelatin, which we often find in stores or in candies.
After watching the video, I decided to try it at home. I bought Rafhan powdered gelatin from the market. It seemed a bit expensive, but I wanted to give it a try. Preparing gelatin turned out to be much easier than I expected. I followed the instructions on the packet carefully and made the entire packet of gelatin. The texture came out perfect, just like store-bought gelatin, and the flavor was great too.

I poured the gelatin into a pan to set and added a layer of custard on top once it was ready. To make it more appealing, I decorated it as well. The result was a beautiful and delicious dessert that everyone enjoyed.
However, I didn’t buy gelatin again because I found it pricey. Instead, I started experimenting with desserts that didn’t require gelatin. This experience taught me not to hesitate when trying something new, as it can often lead to delightful results.
Make a creative gelatin, you can use fruits, creams, sweets, cream, cocoa, coffee among others (detail utensils, ingredients and step by step).
I made a creative gelatin dessert at home using the ingredients I had available (I just bought gelatin from store). Here's how I prepared it, step by step:
Ingredients
- Rafhan powdered gelatin (20g)
- Milk (500ml)
- Custard powder (2 tablespoons)
- Sugar (to taste)
- Water (200 ml)
- Biscuits (crushed, for decoration)

Utensils

- Mixing bowl
- Whisk
- Measuring cup
- Serving dish
1. Preparing the Gelatin:
First, I followed the instructions on the gelatin packet because it had been years since I last made it.
I boiled 200 ml of water in a saucepan. Once the water was hot, I added half a packet of gelatin powder to it.

I stirred the mixture until the gelatin dissolved completely, then set it aside to cool.
Once the gelatin mixture cooled, I poured it into a dish and placed it in the refrigerator to set.
2. Preparing the Custard:
While the gelatin was setting, I prepared the custard.
I heated the milk in a saucepan, keeping aside a small amount in a separate bowl.

I mixed 2 tablespoons of custard powder with the cold milk and stirred until smooth.
Slowly, I added the custard mixture to the boiling milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
I added sugar to taste and cooked the custard for a few minutes until it thickened. Then, I let it cool.
Once the gelatin had set and the custard cooled, I poured the custard over the gelatin layer.
For decoration, I crushed a biscuit and sprinkled it on top.
I allowed the dessert to chill in the refrigerator for another 30 minutes before serving.
The dessert turned out to be delicious and visually appealing. My family loved it and found the combination of creamy custard and soft, wobbly gelatin delightful. This is how I made my creative gelatin dessert with minimal resources!
Did you encounter any difficulties in making your gelatin?
No, I didn’t face any major difficulties in making gelatin. The only challenge I encountered was determining the right quantity of powder to use. The instructions provided were for 400 ml of water, which required 80 grams of gelatin powder. However, I only wanted to try a smaller quantity, so I was unsure about how much powder to use for 100 ml of water.
To resolve this, I watched several YouTube videos and did some calculations. I decided to make half the quantity mentioned in the instructions. So, I used 200 ml of water and reduced the gelatin powder proportionately to 40 grams. Following this method, I was able to prepare the gelatin quite easily, and the result turned out to be excellent.
Do you have any special tips for making gelatin? Share them.
Yes, I have made gelatin a few times, and I have learned that getting the measurements right is key to making it perfect. It's important to measure the correct amount of gelatin powder based on the water volume to ensure the jelly sets properly. Using too much water can make the gelatin too soft, while too little can cause it not to set at all.
I also recommend allowing the gelatin to cook gently for about 5 to 10 minutes after dissolving to ensure it is properly heated and set well. Stir the mixture continuously to avoid lumps and to help the gelatin dissolve evenly. Another tip is not to overheat the gelatin, as excessive heat can impact its setting ability.
Gelatin is a dessert to share, tell us who you shared this gelatin with.
Yes, gelatin is a dessert meant to be shared🤗🌼🌸, and it makes special moments even more enjoyable. I usually make desserts for my loved ones and people close to me, as sharing food brings joy and creates memories.
I made this gelatin at home, and since I and my little sister were the only ones in the house at the time, we both enjoyed it together. We had a great time savoring it while watching a YouTube video. She loved the gelatin and complimented it several times, saying it was delicious and very enjoyable.🌼🌸
