Eternal Glory.

Photographs were obtained from the Dutch National Archief which was broadcast via gahetna.nl about the fall of the fortress Kuta Sukon and Peukan Baro, Pidie on August 6, 1897. I cannot ascertain the two regions at this time, perhaps the area now is Bambi or Lampoh Saka or Simpang Tiga or Kembang Tanjong, please provide information. My search results on Google Map are only 1 place in Pidie that uses the name Kuta Sukon, namely SD Negeri Kuta Sukon, Gp. Sukon, Simpang Tiga, Pidie.

One photo that has been believed to pose as the Kuta Reh massacre is clearly described in the gahetna.nl broadcast, therefore I now believe the photo is true in Kuta Sukon. Photographs showing the acts of arrogance and hatred of the Marechaussee Corps troops dominated by natives in the Aceh-Dutch war. The following is a photo description in Dutch:

Available data shows the events in which Nieuwenhuis took this picture: the fight during the expedition to Sigli in August 1897. In the Semarang newspaper, De Locomotief, August 7, 1897, the combat action was briefly explained:

"Telegram for Locomotives.

Batavia, 7 August.

The third and fourteenth battalions, the Marechaussee, and the mountain artillery section and a section called 'acquaintance' were established in Segli. The attacks on Soekoen and Pakanbaroe have succeeded. With this from our side few died, while eight minors were injured. In Soekoen, the enemy has killed fifty-six, in Pakanbaroe fifty-four. Our loss is 1 person killed and 22 people injured, all junior. The attack continued on Segli. Other bentings left by the enemy. The health situation of the troops is quite profitable. There are no more cases of cholera. (J.B.) "

The message arrived right in the Netherlands:
De Telegraaf August 7, 1897:

'Aceh, Aan het Handelsblad. Is it from Indie Gessenind: Yesterday the 3rd and 14th Battalions have achieved great success in Sigli. The enemy lost 111 people. Our loss was 1 person was killed and 22 people were injured (no officers).

They were martyred, they refused to submit and obey under Dutch rule for only one reason: to seek glory by Allah's side, eternal glory.

However, of all these photos I was interested in observing fortress construction (kuta).
