Steemit: One of the few sites that works in China

in #partiko6 years ago

It's extremely annoying being on a layover in China. The censorship in this country is insane: most chat apps are blocked and major search engines such as Google are also blocked.

I couldn't even perform a search to find out what search engines aren't blocked. Most VPN portals are blocked and if you run one that isn't blocked the government has thousands of employees searching for and subsequently blocking those too.

I have to travel through this country on a regular basis and I'm happy it is only for a few hours each time. Sorry there are no images in this post but that is blocked too. I'm happy that the rest of the planet is not like this for the most part.

I have a friend who lives in Saudi Arabia and he has far more internets freedom than this.

Anyhoo, the good news is that steemit, especially when using the Partiko app, isn't hindered at all (for now) so that was great news.

If you aren't using Partiko, it is free and you should be. They are working on a chat extension and that would be great!

Prepare yourself for this if you ever find yourself heading for a layover in China I guess!

I am sure soon lot people wake up there soon...because history has shown isolation does not last forever. But how it all happens this is something what we all can see and we remember. Like the single man standing in front of the tanks...

It is absurd that there are still countries that want to restrict the freedom of expression of their population, restricting access to certain portals or websites, fortunately this is seen less and less, but there are countries such as China, Venezuela, among others. , where the government in its desire to control everything applies these measures that have led to the decline as a society of its inhabitants. God bless you

i agree with you. Plus the suppression of ideas can't work forever, there is too much information out there and the people who dont work for the government are smarter than the ones that do, for the most part.

Censoring the Internet these days is like censoring freedom of expression! I remember reading that in some areas of China will be able to access Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, this as a way to promote tourism. They almost say it's a fishing hook! When I read this it gives me a chill and I can't stop thinking about dictatorship and retreat.

I firmly believe that in the near future, China should change their hardline policy about the internet . The internet without restriction by the government will be a only tool that possessing it can nearly diminish life problems in China.

That's a shame, I hope one day things change in china. By the way
there is a great variety of mentalities, opinions and content of all kinds in Steemit, the fact that it is not blocked means that it is not yet a mainstream social network.
