I've tried Tumblr. There's so much noise on there that getting any traction, or attention, is next to impossible. So maybe she'll just get bored and abandon it in a week or two.
But yeah, the amount of shocking and deviant porn that winds up in your face, even without looking for it, is overwhelming. I'm not a prude, and actually always thought my imagination was if anything dirtier than most. Turns out, nope. I'm not sure if it has a mechanism for filtering adult content or not. But it's naive to think an algorithm can protect kids from the big bad wolf. Especially if they have any interest at all in teeth.
I agree that setting up a blog it even a Steemit account would be a better idea?
Why did she chose that platform? Does she have friends on Tumblr? Can you speak to their parents about their experiences?
I’m surprised that she even wants one. I’ve opened a Tumblr account a few years before, which got forgotten, lent its name to this Steemit account, got briefly revisited but now lies abandoned. Tumblr seems to have a very strange consumer base mainly made up of SJWs and weirdoes and those that are too cheap to set up a Wordpress based blog site. It seems to be madly unregulated, there’s an awful lot of porn on it.
I’d actually suggest helping her setting up a real blog as a father-daughter project and assist her in its creation. She’ll probably learn some real web design skills that way and also be kept away from an international community of wrong ‘uns on Tumblr.
I downloaded the Tumblr app last night and spend a little while browsing this morning. I didn't see anything objectionable, or anything that she would be interested in, frankly.
It sounds like it is popular with teenage girls who like to draw or paint.
I think like @strayenglishman said. Get her a joint account on steemit, Keep her off of discord and steem chat, if able. This will allow for her to meet a few people on here, have a place to share her stuff, and maybe make a few bucks. There are a few teenagers on here, not very active in the parts and post I read, but it would show her what a few possibilities are. Facebook is a really messed up place from what I hear, and I do not really know about any of the other social accounts. But on steemit, she would need to think about what she is doing before posting, and it would be easy for you to see what she is doing.
I forgot about that danger; there are some very creepy people on Facebook that behave in a very predatory manner; whereas on Tumblr it would be probably be the alternate sexuality related stuff that might be classed as content that is too mature for young eyes. There’s also a need to educate both children and yourselves about online safety; many options such as Snapchat aren’t always so easy for parents to monitor and the peer pressure of playground can sometimes extend far beyond the school gates.
Peer pressure, even though High School was a long time ago for me, I still remember it. So many parental traps today. So hard to keep an eye on them. Right now I think the safest place for teens is steemit. Yes there is adult content, and it is not hard to see, but over all, the seeming predation is not so rampant on steemit as I have heard about it on other sites.
I learned that one from my current job. Shortly after I started here I was frustrated with the pace of a project and said, "I just want to . . ."
Someone interrupted me to say, "This is the nuclear industry, son. We don't just do anything. You see, there is a process that we have to follow . . ."
It took months to "follow the process," starting with a long meeting to discuss the proposed process, then meetings to describe the process. If you forgot what the point of the process was, you had to go back and read the mountain of paperwork that it had generated to figure it out.
My daughter should be glad that I'm not going to schedule a conference call with a consultant.

It’s only a matter of time before you notice the agendas at play. They pretty much allow anything that isn’t illegal on there.

She has made it clear that she "wants nothing to do with Steemit," which is just as well. She would have a hard time finding peers here.
Yeah there are a few teens, but not to many.
