The Best Youtube Channel For Kids Who Love Wheels!

in #parenting6 years ago

What began as a short original song that taught children to name twenty different kinds of work vehicles has now exploded into a multi - genre song list of educational (and incredibly catchy) videos and songs that detail the responsibilities, safety measures, work load, and personality of every kind of work vehicle imaginable!

My own 4 year old is obsessed with vehicles, and he is also a pretty smart little guy. These videos are intelligent, factual, and loaded with information, delivered in a fun way. At the same time, he is being exposed to many modern music genres.

Because he watches these videos, my son has taught me about work vehicles I didn't even know existed!

For Example...

Did you know that skid steers are always having fun?

LYRICS

SKIDSTEER
How does this truck steer
When his wheels only go straight?
He’s able to turns thanks to a trick
That’s his namesake

When his right wheels go faster than his left
The left skids and he turns left
When his left side wins, he turns right
Just like you might have guessed
(Watch him pirouette!)

He loves to show off what he can do
Doing tricks while he gets work done
Doesn’t stop till the job is through
No the Skidsteer is just the one
Who’s always having fun
Skidsteer is always having fun
Skidsteer is always having fun

There aren’t many jobs
He won’t easily tackle
Like tearing down a wall
With the help of a grapple

Even though he may seem pretty small
Skidsteer’s one tough cat
This one here has solid tires
That never will go flat

He loves to show off what he can do
Doing tricks while he gets work done
Doesn’t stop till the job is through
No the Skidsteer is the one
Who’s always having fun
Skidsteer is always having fun
Skidsteer is always having…

He’s so functional
That the others can’t compete
See him using forks to break up
Asphalt and concrete

His attachments make him versatile
But there’s one that he likes best
(Can you guess which it is?)
That’s right, it’s his bucket
He just thinks it’s handiest

He loves to show off what he can do
Doing tricks while he gets work done
Doesn’t stop till the job is through
No the Skidsteer is the one
Who’s always having fun
Skidsteer is always having fun
Skidsteer is always having fun

And check out how they explain the job performed by a concrete boom pump:

LYRICS

CONCRETE BOOM PUMP
Working early in the morning
Starting out at day’s first light
He’s got a lot of work to do, yeah
And he works with all of his might

Once at the work site he sets things up
Carefully getting his outriggers placed
He’ll be pumping tons of concrete
pumping tons of concrete all day
So he’s gotta have a steady base

Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom
Concrete Boom Pump
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom, boo-oo-oom

Mix trucks load up the concrete
His hopper’s filled again and again
Then from this central location
He reaches out his boom and extends

He manages the pour from below
Properly regulating how it flows
He maneuvers his robotic, maneuvers his robotic arm, oh
Yeah, it’s guided by remote control

Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom
Concrete Boom Pump
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom, boo-oo-oom

Some trucks boast impressive pump rates
Beyond a hundred yards for every hour
The pressure this requires is great
It takes a massive surplus of power

See how his arms have multiple parts
Each one articulated and so strong
Flexible joints keep them together
his joints keep them together, and woh!
Some arms are two hundred feet long!

Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom
Concrete Boom Pump

And my son's latest favorite, Off Road Racing Trucks (with a bit of a EDM kick):

LYRICS
It's the off-road, off-road racing truck
Can you believe his amazing luck?
He’s gotta keep tough, Gotta stay tuned up
Who’s in the lead now?

Speeding through turns, he can’t over-rotate
Hitting his jumps clean, not getting sideways
No, no time to be afraid, Can’t fear the contact
He only knows one mode:
Attack! Attack! Attack!
Who’s in the lead now? Who’s in the lead?

It’s the off-road, off-road racing truck
Can you believe his amazing luck?
He’s gotta keep tough, Gotta stay tuned up
And when things go wrong, He’s gotta stay strong
Off-road, off-road racing truck
And if he wins he might make a buck
He’s gotta keep tough, Gotta stay tuned up
Who’s in the lead now?

She’s rough and strong, she’s as tough as can be
But if she wants first, then safety comes first,
Oh, when there’s a crash on the track
A yellow flag gives warning, Wait for the green flag
Then Go! Go! Go!
Who’s in the lead now? Who’s in the lead?

It’s the off-road, off-road racing truck
Can you believe her amazing luck?
She’s gotta keep tough, Gotta stay tuned up
And when things go wrong, She’s gotta stay strong
Off-road, off-road racing truck
And if she wins she might make a buck
She’s gotta keep tough, Gotta stay tuned up
Who’s in the lead now?
Who’s in the lead?

They’re strong! They’re fast! They’re stoked!
Racing is life, oh!
So if you backfire
Race on!
And if you lose a tire
Race on!
Race on!

Cause they’re off-road, off-road racing trucks
Can you believe their amazing luck?
They gotta keep tough, Gotta stay tuned up
And when things go wrong, They gotta stay strong
Off-road, off-road racing truck
And if they win they might make a buck
They gotta keep tough, Gotta stay tuned up
Who’s in the lead now?

I often find these song stuck in my head, and I occasionally sing them to myself after my son has already left for school. Haha!

As a mom, I'm in love with how well articulated they are. The makers of these videos could have done what every other youtube kids content creator does and keep it vague and empty, but whomever made these video really put some thought into education and entertainment.

You can find the youtube channel here where your kiddo can watch for free:

Fantastic! Love this. But not as much as my three year old will!

Appreciate you sharing :)

My son Snow use to love these shows, now he is hooked on his tablet :) Thank you for sharing :)

Mine is hooked on his tablet, too. Mostly fire fighter games. lol How old is your son?

Dregon, loves power rangers, sago mini, a snail level game, and mickey mouse color game. He is 4 years old. We got him the tablet because he had a Vtec tablet like game that taught him his ABC's and numbers. He now knows all his letters and can count to 15. He learned that at 3 1/2. He loves to learn but it has to be his own way. I have tried conventional ways and he just zones out and won't participate. It is a learning game, for us as well, with what works at what doesn't.

I did want to say thank you to you. In your post about your son, when he woke up with a bad dream, you said you squeezed his arms and hands to try and comfort him. Our speech therapist did that but to get him to pay attention and he hated it and it never worked. He got upset a few days ago and I tried it and it worked :) I was never told to use it for when he gets upset. I was told it was for calming his sensory disorder so he would pay attention and engage. Thank you again for sharing and all info you would like to pass on I would love to hear :) Have a great day :)

That's right, I remember our conversation now. Sorry, it's been a long week.
Sounds like he and Cam are very similar in how they learn. It's taken a long time to get him to allow others to teach him. It has been helpful for us to use cars or car related things to get him to engage in a lesson because that is his niche. For example, we used cars to teach him to count and say colors. They use car shaped pop beads at school to get him to work on motor skills.
I would never suggest a typical child to have as much tablet time as my son has, but it has taught him SO MUCH. Even the Youtube kids app. Some of the vocabulary apps taught him to point (because he has to tap on the picture to get a noise ) and it gave him a huge vocabulary (internally). Now that he's learning to speak finally, he doesn't have a problem remembering the names of things.
The Speak Up app is one his therapist at school uses. It has a little picture that moves when the child speaks. The louder the child speaks, the more the photo moves. This taught Cam to really open his mouth and make noise!
I've never been told not to use squeezes when he's upset, but I can see why it would be counter productive if a kiddo is too upset. Cameron loves the sensory input from a squeeze or a hug these days. Didn't start out that way, though. lol
When we are in a new place and I can tell he's starting to get a little erratic and hyper, I'll squeeze his upper arms, then lower arms, lower legs, then upper legs, then I squeeze his head at the temple or the ears. Sometimes, you can almost see the tension leave his little body.
