Hey guys, sorry i been a no show for so long but i been quite floored by the chronic fatigue. Apparently making milk is very demanding for my body but now, after 3 weeks it seems like im getting some energy back :)
Minielf is thriving, she gained 400g since being born! But we figured she was gaining weight since her chicken legs were filling out and she is getting quite the doubel chin ;) :)
The last two days i started picking saskatoons, since they are ready and soo so tasty
So, yes, inbetween sleeping, feeding minielf and picking saskatoons i will start posting again. I got some exciting news about our ginger i want to share :)
Welcome back! We just picked a pile of Saskatoons too. The trees we planted three years ago had some pretty fat berries! We also hit up some wild saskatoon trees for our Prepper Cook-Off challenge and will be sharing that experience later tonight! I hope you're getting lot of amazing snuggles, and by the photo above I'd be willing to bet you'd answer "yes!" -Aimee

Would you say this third year is when you got a decent harvest of them? Me and Brock were talking about having saskatoons when we get our own place and were wondering how long it would be before we got a good harvest.
Yes i am for sure, and especially last couple of days, she have a stuffed nose and have been a bit warm so she wants to be held and be close <3 starting to be better now though.
Wow! 54 litres is awesome. The years we've picked large quantities we've frozen them, which are also a nice snack. We like to freeze them in a single layer on a cookie sheet before transferring them to a bag. That way they don't stick together in giant lumps and you can just table what you need without thawing the whole bag.
We planted ours when they were about 1 year old and they've been in the ground for 3 years and this has been the best harvest so far. Matt says the variety of Saskatoon matters for fruiting and berry size. He chose the Northline variety because they're known to bear fruit in a couple years. They're also a shrub variety which means they don't get much more than 6 ft. tall. They send up suckers though which is good in you want to expand your orchard but bad if you think transplanting or cutting back suckers is a nuisance. He wrote a Saskatoon Article a while ago that you may find useful.
I am glad your wee one is starting to feel better! Knock on wood the most we've gotten here are a few stuffy noses too. With the exception of little H having a few food reactions that is. We are so grateful that they've been so healthy but we think eating well and being mindful of what they come into contact with has helped. They've also chewed on a lot of bark. Immunity boosting, right? Ha ha ha! -Aimee
Yeah and its just a fraction of the total we picked. I didnt realize what a good extra income they were :)
Oh yes, we do that with the rasberries, it takes a bit of extra time but i prefer that to the clumps for sure!
Hm i wonder if thats the variety they have here. Having a shrub sized one makes sense, you kinda want to be able to pick the berries without having to climb ;) :) i think i read it but i will re-read it!
Yeah, im happy she is feeling better, it was not easy seeing her so uncomfortable.
Haha yes, as long as its nature i think its real good for them. We're constantly plucking dog hair out of her mouth :p
I never actually looked into how profitable Saskatoon berries are so that's good to know. Everyone around here seems to like them anyway. When ever I see all the berries drying out of. The tall trees I think, what a waste. But I guess those one are for the wildlife and, eventually, the soil. Ha ha!

They're tasting real amazing this year! The amount of them is less than last year, but the juiciness and flavour is better. I'm happy to take the later.
Definitely! Yummy is better than plentiful. How'd you do it? Cause my plums were plentiful and not yummy.
