My 18month Old Son Has Had Enough – He’s Moving Out! Why Is He So Funny?
When my son was born and during his infant months, I thought he could not possibly get any more adorable! But then he grew a little, and got even more adorable and fascinating! He is constantly running, climbing, crawling, touching and tasting everything, taking out for a walk his daddy’s shoes or as you can see below: packing up his suitcase and moving out. His behaviour amazes me, fortunately, so I set out to better understand why he does the things he does.
His reality is not mine. He cannot yet distinguish between his imaginary world and the real world, as any adult or older child can.
He is learning cause and effect by playing and experimenting. He is amazed by the things I don’t even pay attention anymore. “If I throw the ball down the stairs, it will jump!” “Why does the feather float in the air but this rock won’t?”
His attention span is minimal. One minute he is profoundly playing with a toy in the park, then a dog walks by and he starts chasing it. He is impulsive and easily distracted, which comes very handy under some circumstances.
Everything is new to him. Imagine seeing a cat for your first time. Puffy, meowing, pink tongue that scratches a bit when it licks you. His world is filled with every day miracles. Maybe it’s the snow, the traffic stop changing lights, a construction truck, a butterfly, his brain processes all these for the first time.
Talking is still a mystery to him. He only says a handful of words yet but sometimes he sounds and looks as if he’s having a full conversation, whether with himself, myself, his mom, or others. I can’t always understand what he’s trying to tell me, and I can see him grabbing me by the hand and trying to get me to do what he is trying to tell me to do.
Small achievements are huge for him. I bought for him some fancy and not so cheap toys. But in his eyes, nothing matches up a bottle and a bottle cap. To watch his so concentrated, trying to put the cap back on the bottle, and the joy on his face when he manages that is absolutely priceless.
There’s definitely nothing like this parenting journey. Even though sometimes it is frustrating, messy, repetitive, it is always amazing!
This little human is exploring life and all the wonders we adults have forgotten about. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for reminding. I have no little human of my own for now, but I can't wait to see their journey one day. Hopefully.

Very positive post :) My son is 1 year old now and he's very busy in exploring the world as well. He's amazing :) But I'm wondering, how do you cope with this frustration and repetitiveness? There are days when they are really overwhelming...

Everybody copes with things in their own way. I am a calm person so I tend to accept the situation as it is, when it is; instead of trying to fight it, I deal with it the best I can. Sometimes it's definitely easier said than done.
My partner is more impulsive and she seems to get more frustrated and aggravated by his mood swings. So I tell her to meditate, advice which is not always well received :D

My son turned 2 this month so I am with you 100%. It is always so fascinating and hilarious to me to witness how his little brain operates and try to comprehend the flow of his thoughts. About a month ago, his mother and I took him to go see monster trucks and periodically since then he will randomly announce to anyone that will listen that "monter twucks loud!". Little small behaviors like this have my dying of laughter because most adults understand the idea of conversational context and how that wouldn't make sense to just blurt out in mid sentence to people. Little things like this keep me consistently entertained lol.
He is cute. I can relate. Love my boy so much and we have so much fun. I hope you don't mind me sharing a post but I think it fits great as an introduction.

I can so relate. My boy loves the Thomas trains where you put batteries in them and they go on the track. He is gotten to the point where he wants us to watch youtube videos on how to fix them and will scream if he doesnt get to open it with a real screw driver. He needs some help of course but it is amazing the things he does. So much fun watching his mind work as he looks for solutions.
