The Haunting of Sunrise childen's hospital
I recall late one evening my buddy calling me with a sense of excitement in his voice, he was screaming on the phone but I had no clue what he was talking about. I asked him to slow down and to tell me why he was so excited. He said over and over into the phone. "I have the keys, I have the keys". The keys to what I asked? He responded back "To the hospital" and I said cool.
In my mind I assumed it was to another abandoned hospital we had access to, however let me be the first to say I was wrong. He and I discussed over the phone meeting later at night to explore it and to document our experience. I was down for it and very eager to do some exploration. I told him that I would meet him later, that first I was going to take a nap in order to be refreshed before entering that place. That was when things took a twisted and weird turn as I will now explain.
As I slept I had a dream that I was walking the corridors of a very dark hospital, that this place was new to me. It felt like I never been there before and that made me feel uncomfortable. I recall in my dream walking through a pitch black corridor with a faint flash light in hand. I recall stopping in a hall where two corridors veered off right and left, I remember the hairs standing up on my arm. At that very moment in the dream a dark shadow appeared before me, and I grabbed my chest and gasped loudly in fright.
It startled me so bad that I awoke from my dream with my hand clutching my chest and my body cold as ice. I was like "What the ****?". I quickly woke up and rubbed my eyes and when I did, a vision of a white lattice fence appeared before my eyes. I quickly popped up out of bed to regain my composure, this dream truly startled me. I have never been fearful of dark places or of ghosts, but something about this dream haunted me that night and would soon come to life.
Thereafter my phone started ringing, it was my buddy Jim on the phone. I told him that I was running late, and that we could meet at the hospital. He laughed and told me that it was not the hospital we had access to, that this was a new place. I quickly stayed quiet as I recalled my haunting dream, and in my mind I whispered to myself "Oh Shit!". I then asked him how he found this location and he told me that his daughter went to school across the street from this hospital. That it was abandoned and that his daughter would see the hands of ghostly kids waving at her from the darkened windows during the day. He said that he pulled some strings with a security guard and was fortunate to get the keys for one night. After hearing this and thinking of my dream I was fair game, I mean how could I pass up this experience?
When we arrived at this place, we were greeted by a steel door at the entrance. We quickly fumbled around for the keys and went in. The place was darker than dark, the halls were pitch black and barely no light came in from the windows. This place was indeed the place from my dreams, there was no mistaking it. I actually dreamed of this exact place hours before entering it and that both intrigued me and spooked the heck out of me. Yet nothing was going to stop me from exploring this place, I ain't scared of no ghost I thought to myself as I chuckled.
The place was filled with old wheelchairs and hospital beds, there were files everywhere and in total state of decay. Jim had told me that the security guard had told him that it was under construction and that 12 construction workers quit. That before they left, they screamed that the place was haunted and that one worker had a chair tossed at him by an malicious entity. I do not know how much of that story was real, but I was aiming to find out for myself whether it was remotely true or not. Myself and our team quickly starting filming and recording to see whether or not we would encountered anything.
The blackboard room
- In this room we caught a voice on video, see video for details at end of blog. We never really heard the voice with our own ears, but was surprised to hear it in the video we shot within that room. It was the reason why we returned the following night.
The Medical Wing
When we entered the medical wing, this was by far the most heaviest of all the places around. The heat was unbearable, the stench moldy and the air thick to say the least. You felt a sense of dread, of sadness, of sorrow, of sheer depression. It was as if you were walking into the room at a funeral home, the darkness within consumed you and the lingering feeling of death filled the air. I could not for the life of me figure out why I felt this way until a few days when the answer came to light. This was a children hospital and this was the wing where many kids died tragically of illness, accident and/or disease. It was at this place where we decided to have a seat on the floor, turn off our lights and look toward a window down the end of the hall where light was shining through. We were looking for movement, for shadows for anything and what we encountered made us question it all.
You see with the lights off we were able to make our shadows, heads of short people walking about. We were able to see movement and it truly left us in awe at that moment. When we turned on the lights they would disappear, however when the lights were off they came out to play. It was as if the light scared them, or they were too shy to come forth, but when the lights were off and our eyes adjusted to the darkness. They at that moment made themselves known to us and it was a remarkable experience. There was no sense of evil, of darkness, or something bad but rather a sense of being surrounded by children.
Children Triage room after surgery
Here was a place that held much sadness and joy, for here was the place where parents got to see their kids recovering or where they said their goodbyes. It was a place that pulled at your heart strings and that truly made you come to terms with reality. You could see where the beds where lined up, where the machines were to be plugged in and where everything took place at. It was a vast large room which echoed with every foot step we took and a place of deep reflection. This was the end of the first night in this place, but the second night details are below.
The Dream comes true
On my second trip to this place the very next night, I went with a few friends. We decided to walk a wing we have never been before in the lower basement. Now this was a very dark place where we had to use night vision, full spectrum lighting to see in the dark. As we were walking down the corridors, I had a friend named Raul walking on my right side. My cousin Mike and my friend Eddie walked behind us.
As we walked through these long hallways, I recall almost tripping on something on the floor. I paused for a second and looked down. As I turned my eyes to the floor and peeked downwards, I made our a familiar object. I could not believe my eyes at what I was seeing. My first reaction was to call out to my cousin mike instantly to validate what I was seeing. "Oh Crap, Mike what is that on the floor?". My cousin Mike who stopped, looked down and said it is a section of wood and that it was nothing more than a piece of white lattice fencing. The second he said that, Raul jumped backwards gasping real loud and clutching his hand to his chest. We ran up to Raul as he startled us and asked him what happened.
Raul said he took a few steps forward and came across a corridor with a left and right passage. He said he stopped for a second to look at us and when he turned his eyes back to the corridor. A dark shadow appeared before him which startled him and he jumped back. I could not believe what Raul was saying, I was in shock. This was my dream, this was what I dreamed about. Oh my God it came true but instead of me being scared, he was. It was that white lattice fence I saw in my vision, that made me stop in my tracks and that prevented me from being frightened by the spirit as per my dream.
That ended the night real quick as my friends had enough and wanted to go home. It was already very late and dawn was a mere hour away. So we decided to wrap it up and say good bye to the place and the spirits within. Sadly however we had no video cameras running to record that experience that night. Yet we did record the night before and that video I now present to you below. Whether you choose to believe or not, that is your option. I am merely just sharing my journey, my story with you so that you can judge for yourself.
