Being born and brought up in India, you are bound to have heard a real life tale or two from the locals about hauntings and sightings of something in some places. Some stories might appear to be hoaxes but some of the spooky onces... I mean send shivers down the spine kind of spooky tales have found enough evidence to prove something is definitely up with them. We have listened various such stories about these places, have researched about them and can say some of them are definitely have some weight. In this list, we'll showcase 5 of these places that have spooked us enough to find their place in this list.

A. Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan

Located at the border of the Sariska Tiger Reserve in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, Bhangarh Fort is a 17th century fort, infamous all over India for being the 'most haunted place in India'. Because of the ghostly experiences the villages have moved far away from the fort due to fear of what lies within. Even the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has forbidden the locals and tourists from entering the fort at night. People who have entered the fort have reported it to have an eerie and negative aura to it.

The history of the fort dates back to centuries. It is believed to have been built by Man Singh , one of the Navratnas of Akbar's court for his son Madho Singh I.

The origin of such hauntings are still surviving in the form of legends. The two mentioned below, which have tried to give a meaning to the eerie atmosphere which surrounds the haunted fort of Bangarh.
i. Curse of the Ascetic, Bala Nath -
The first legend claims that a king named Madhu singh raised the Bhangarh Fort after obtaining permission from an ascetic name Bala Nath who lived there; having agreed to a condition which said that the "shadow of the fort" must never fall upon the home of the ascetic. But as fate would have it, one of the future successors of Madhu singh added to the fortifications vertically, thereby causing its ominous shadow to engulf the abode of the ascetic. Once it came to pass, the fort was doomed within no time.
ii. Curse of Singhia -
The second legend which is a lot more spookier claim that the princess Ratnavati , of Bhangarh was responsible for the apocalyptic situation that befall the fort. Rani-Ratnavati.jpg

Singhia, a well versed occult magician fell in love with her and tried bewitch a oil that would hypnotize the princess and make her surrender herself. But the princess smelled suspicion. And foiled his plan by pouring the oil on a large boulder which further crushed the magician to death. Before singhia breathed his last, he placed a curse upon the entire landscape that no soul would ever be able to live in piece there.

No one is allowed to enter the Fort after sunset, or before sunrise. As one enters the fort at night, people have reported to feel as if there movements are being watched, and the air is charged with a dizzying heaviness.

B. Tower of Silence, Mumbai.

'Tower of silence' the name itself is a but spooky and mysterious... right!! Well let me explain to you guys what it actually means. The tower of silence or better known as 'Dakhma' amongst the Zoroastrians or the parsis, is nothing but a place where they traditionally serve there loved ones corpses for there 'last serving/charity towards earth.' Let me further explain what do I mean by the above statement.
According to the Zoroastrian tradition a dead body is considered to be nasu , i.e, potential pollutant. The corpse demon was believed to rush into the body and contaminate everything it came in contact with, hence Vendidad (given against the demons) has rules for disposing of the dead as safely as possible. Moreover, to avoid the pollution of earth (by burrowing) or fire (by burning) the dead is avoided by placing the corpses on top of a tower, exposed to the sun and scavenging birds. Thus, "putrefaction with all its concomitant evils, is most effectually prevented.

So as in Christianity we have graveyards, in Hinduism we have Ghats, in Islam we have kabristans, just like that a tower of silence is nothing but a way of Parsees to give their fellow people their last act of charity. As of the hauntings, there are no such sightings, or mysterious occurrences in or outside the tower of silence. But the people who cross by it or go inside it, are said to have an uneasy and uncomfortable feeling. The reason to which is unknown and thus is said to be haunting. This place is in our list because of the large number of dead bodies being kept over here every year.

In 2010, the owner of Kolkata National Library, took the help of Archeological Survey of India (ASI) for restoration of the building. Interesting news coming out about a secret room or nearly 1000 sq ft, on the ground floor without any door or trap door too. ASI decided to drill a hole in the wall to this secret chamber, but according to ASI , Kolkata official, it is just a chamber for architectural benefit. However this doubt is not fully cleared as after 2012, no information about the chamber was publically released.

The guards are often feared to take duty on the night shift, though they don't want to talk with media for the safety of their jobs.
It is known that the footsteps of the Governors wife can still be heard. There was an incident reported a few years back, a few students who went to the library to collect material for their project. One of them reported to have heard footsteps in the hallway and claimed to have heard whispers and a cold breath close to his ear.
Beside this, the building has another story. At the time of renovation of the old block, 12 labors lost their life after an accident. Some eye witness has seen some black images fading in front of them.

This strange phenomenon of avian mass suicides of birds can be seen from a bird watchtower in Jatinga, which requires prior persission though. The Zeme Naga tribes were the natives of Jatinga, They were the first to witness the extraordinary behaviour of the birds - hundreds of birds seem to be attracted to camp fires, descended from the sky and crashed to their deaths by colliding into the bamboos, trees and other structures.
