Visit Volcan, Panama - 2018 Flower Festival

in #panama6 years ago (edited)

This year Volcan will be hosting the Tierras Altas Flower Festival again! We went last year and it was a weekend full of flowers and fun! I highly encourage this event if you are in the area!

The activities for preparing for the Flower Festival have already started. The people are out preparing flowers for the sides of the road, painting trash cans, and putting the floats together. The events take place on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday of this week, and there is a full schedule (which you can see below or read the translation below).

Last year, we attended the parade on Sunday as well as the booths at the local school. It was a lot of fun to spend time with neighbors and friends out in the town. The floats are pretty cool - think Rose Parade on a small scale! The marching bands are also really good! If you're in the area, it's worth checking this event out! Let's just hope it doesn't rain again like it did last year!

Traditions like these are great. I love the pictures, they are so colorful and brighten up the day! 😊

Yes, thanks for stopping by!

That looks like a Panama style Rose Bowl Parade. When we lived in Indonesia, our city had a similar celebration. Originally the participants would dump the floats into the ocean to appease a sea goddess. Now they dump them at a local land fill.

What happens to the floats after the parade?

That's a pretty interesting way to dispose of the floats at the end! Well, I know that most of the sculptures are stored at a local hotel in off season, so maybe they all use the same float bases every year. I'm not really sure, but I should know after this weekend if we get to attend the parade! Good question though!

FOR TSE: Corazon del cielo ... heart of heaven!! I love it!! I knew you were talking about an alt account, but I didn't know it was already an up-and-going concern. What a marvelous idea. I'll be back to hit it with more in a few hours. What a colorful event!

Thanks! Yep, been hiding. ;) Yes that's the name of our neighborhood. Pretty cool, huh? The gardener/gate keeper here used to be named Jesus as well. Ha! :)

Oh, that's rich!!

ohhhhh this looks like such a fun parade!!!! it reminds me of our Rose Bowl parade here in Pasadena! :) I would love to see all the floats being made carefully ... it's amazing to me that people can use FLOWERS as their paints really! hehehehehe

beautiful post @apanamamama! :)

I grew up in California and attended the Rose Parade for a few years. Pretty fun. This is like a TINY scale of that. I think there were really only a handful of floats last year, but it was still pretty cool to see!

Those polleras look so beautiful! November was my favourite month because I got to see all of the festivals in there!

Yes, there's a ton going on in November and December with Mother's Day and all the independence days!!
