Palm Oil Blues
85% of palm oil comes from Indonesia and Malaysia. Palm oil extraction has produced large scale environmental destruction, global warming, labor abuses while providing cheap products and miniscule payments to workers. It threatens human habitat and rhino, tiger, and orangutan populations. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has pushed Malaysia and Indonesia to produce more. The IMF is an arm of elite U.S. oligarchs and the military industrial complex funding extraction and financial manipulation around the world, funding dictators, while maintaining impoverished populations. World Bank policies in the 1970s encouraged the Indonesian government to expand palm among small farmers. Palm oil took off in the 1990s when it was realized that margarine had partially hydrogenized fats, trans fats, which are harmful to health. Palm oil use has exploded in every continent in the world. It has been a big hit in junk foods, so actually any intent to produce “healthier fats” have been offset by promoting and exploiting it in processed crap food worldwide which destroys local food economies and food cultures.
