Morning Walk

"Terrifying rustles in the shadows...beautiful creatures in the light."

I was inspired to paint this image based on my experience camping in southern Illinois. I went to a new campsite on memorial day but did not get there until the night before. The camp site was a few hundred feet into the forest and it was pitch black. As I walked through the forest on a small winding path I couldn't hear anything but the noise of the leaves crushing beneath my feet. It was a eerie feeling... once I made it to the small clearing I set out my sleeping bag, I couldn't see anything, it was to dark so the tent would have to be set up in the morning along with everything else.
The sun had already started to break through the trees, then I heard something, my eyes quickly opened and began search my surroundings. It was still hard to see with the sleep still looming in my eyes, I struggled to see in the shadows a bit of movement and heard the sounds of leaves and twigs breaking a crushing louder with every move. I though to myself... is it a black bear? A coyote? A cougar? I quickly looked around for something to defend myself with...just as I was about to grab a large stick next to me, one of the beasts jumped and broke through the shadows into the light...leaves and small branches breaking and flying all around me... as I fell back I realized what I was confronted with. Laughter took over me...a deer, a white tailed deer. But not just one but a family of them, all out for a morning walk.

What beautiful creatures they are...
