Another garden friend Praying Mantises
Praying Mantises are very beneficial to your backyard gardens. They only eat other insects and thin out populations of pests in your garden. They even sell praying mantis eggs and kits online so you can release them in your gardens.
I found this one on my front porch.

Praying mantises are named so because when they hold their forearms up it looks like they are praying.
)
Mantises range in color from brown to bright green depending upon their environment. This one looks different than any I have ever seen because it has a brown body with green legs. He was about an inch long.

These guys are great for keeping the pests in your garden and around your house thinned out. Mantises can be cannibalistic an often during mating the females will cut off the male's head. This is so he will be sure to finish his job and so he will not have a chance to eat the female after they finish.
