A few interesting statistics on teen health in the US
Periodically I will try to share interesting statistics:
GOOD: Here in America, we have a big problem with the Opioid Epidemic. Well, here's a bright spot - Misuse of prescription pain medications by 8-12th graders is at historic lows which peaked in 2003. Teen smoking is way down too (though vaping is partly an attempt by the tobacco industry to get our kids hooked again).
BAD: Current sleep recommendations for teens is 8.25-9.25 hours per night. 75% of HS seniors get <8 hours.
GOOD: US Teen Pregnancy rate is down to 31.3/1000 teens aged 15-19 from high of 61.8 in 1991 (11/1000 for 15-17yo), that's a phenomenal improvement over the last 25 years.
