Steemit Open Mic WEEK 79 - Death Don't Have No Mercy - Gary Davis...... In memory and honour of a dear friend and fellow musician who sadly died on Wed Night
My entry for steemit @openmic Week 79. (if I've scraped in in time.) Ah shit I didn't mention Week 79 or my username!!
I'm posting in a hurry, so as soon as I've posted, to hopefully get in on time, I'll edit and fill in the text in the next half hour or so.
I don't know if it can be excused on this occasion. My head is a bit messy. My dear friend and fellow acoustic blues man/songster passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, and I really wanted to sing this song in Tony's honour. If it can't be entered, of course rules is rules and I just hope that many of you will still find listening value. I don't know how I got through it with no tears, I only just held them back through the intro, which is rather long, a little drunken, yet very heartfelt'
I know everone tends to speak well of those who've passed, but in Tony's case, people all had the same opinion, a beautiful soul, wise and humble in nature, generous with a big heart, on top of being a really exceptionally gifted and tallented acoustic bluesman.
His motto for life was simple and sweet... "Pass It On", whether material things, wisdom or love.
We'd lost touch for a while until last year, and were so excited to find each other again, and we'd made plans to do some gigs this year together.
I'd like to apologise for the sound quality not being up to my usual standard. It's probably just me and my messy head, but I just couldn't get the audio track to sync at all. So I've gone with the camera's mic for this one. I might have to revert to Sony Vegas again for editing video, instead of Lightworks 14 free edition. Which is great apart from the syncing issues.... boo!
I'd like to add this further youtube vid of a recording I made of Tony playing Police Dog Blues, way back in 1999 at The Stamford Folk and Blues Guitar Festival, in the Juke Joint bar, where I was running an open mic.
Tony Jones - Police Dog Blues RIP my blues brother!!

Sorry for your loss, may he live on through the music you dedicate to him in his honour. Glad you were able to reconnect and reunite in the end before his passing away. It is never easy, and may he rest in peace. Nice heartfelt performance
@verbal-d, thanks brother, he'll live on in many people's music and many people's lives, he was selflessly inspirational to so many, he spread a beautiful enthusiasm wherever he went. I know people never speak ill of the dead etc, but Tony truly was one exceptional man.
That is great to hear he left such an exceptional impression on everyone's lives, may more people be inspired to live as he was by example. You're most welcome bro. Let us continue to do the same and be positive loving role models and peers within this world
Word brother, word!! 🙂
🙂 We got a lot of work to do!
Endless, but constantly fulfilling. 😉
Wise words and truly evident. Steem on bro
For ever bro, Steem on indeed.
This is an excellent cover man. It's so hard to do these old blues songs any justice and you certainly did. Sorry for your loss also, wish you all the best.
Thanks @beeflomein, thanks, thanks and thanks bro.
Sounds good bro.
Just so you know your entry was posted an hour after the deadline but I did include in the weekly post. Luckily, it was the only late one this week so it was easy.
Normally though I wouldn't be able to add all the late entries after the fact.
Please read the rules to enter carefully as we post the deadline there each week and it reads:
The cutoff date to enter is 12.00 PM UTC Time (Friday, 6th April 2018). Find your UTC time here. Entries posted late will not be upvoted. Please read the post and get your entries in on time. Week 79 begins April 1st and ends the 6th.
Thank you
Yes, so sorry bro, I was there for hours trying to sync the sound, unsuccessfully, and then went with the camera mic and it all took a bit longer that I expected.
It was a last minute recording too, he only passed Wed night.
I very much appreciate you allowing it in Luz, I'll be sure I never post past a deadline in the future.
Big thanks again bro
its always hard to lose a friend, but he will always be with you!
That is a great thing to realise at this point, he surely will be. Thanks @claudiaz
So sorry for your loss, brother. This is a great tribute to you dear friend. Peace, love, and comfort to all those who knew and loved him.
Thanks, nice words, and your continued support of my music is always an encouraging influence on me.
I'd like to say a huge thanks to everyone for the upvotes and support shown by individuals and the support of @curie, @music-trail, @openmic etc.
I hadn't thought about it at the time of posting, but despite having only intentions of building SP for useful curating, and no intentions of withdrawing anything from my account, I realised when the rewards came through to my account, that I didn't feel comfortable accepting financial rewards of any kind for something I did as a tribute to a dear friend who had just passed away.
The 'value' for me was having a platform for my tribute to an amazing guy to exist on for time.
So on this occassion I'm donating the proceeds back into the open mic so that it can be used towards the prize pool of another openmic 'contest'. I've donated the SBD, and will donate the value of SP as soon as I have enough non powered up steem/SBD's in my a/c.
Tony played countless open mics right to the very end, despite being a busy gigging musician for many, many years, so I know that this would make him smile. 😊
