Steemit Openmic Week 74 - Original, Knew BettersteemCreated with Sketch.

in #openmic6 years ago (edited)

Everyone always asks me what my process for writing music is..... and I always say "it depends on the day". This is the truest thing ever, because I usually never write the same on a given day, but I have a few steps I do stick to for the most part.

Numer One:
I skim through old lyrics.

  • I have soooo many lyrics written down in my phone, and before I write I usually skim through them to see if any of them are usable.

Number Two:
I hardly EVER write a song without an instrument in-front of me.

  • (I did write a song in my car on the way to the studio the other day though haha). It helps me to write with a piano or guitar, messing around with different chord progressions to see what direction I'd like to take the song.

Number Three:
I love to listen to music before I write.

  • This really sets the mood for me. I'll pick a few of my favorite artists, such as K.Flay, Lord, Halsey, or Donna Missal. Artists with reeeeeally good lyrics to get my mind thinking.

Number Four:
I fight myself on my perfectionism.

  • Guys this will KILL your music and I've struggled with it for a very long time. Before I sit down to write, I tell myself "Whatever you write today is good enough and it DOESN'T have to be perfect". This has made a huge difference for me when I write. I used to be so obsseed with writing a "Hit" song or hoping that others wouldl like it. Now I mostly focus on if I like it and loving whatever I create. Creativitly cannot like in negativity.

I hope you guys enjoy this song, because I've loved writing it SO much. It's my boyfriends favorite song that I've written to this day. I'd talk more about it, but I want you guys to listen to the song and tell me what YOU think about it.

Love you all so so so soooo much.

xoxo, Addie

I drew lipstick on your pillow case
To make sure that I won the race
Who could sabotage each other’s peace

A year ago I woulda felt so cold
Next to you I nearly froze in place

But, God damn it’s hard to see ya
You know I wanted to believe ya

When ya said that we were shock proof to the world

Chorus
It hit me harder
When you said you would call
I knew much better
Than to want you at all
But now I’m runnin my mouth with no way out feelin so small
I knew much better
I knew much better

Stormy feelings what a salty taste
Left in my mouth oh what a mistake
All this cloudy judgment in here
How was I supposed to feel

When you said it was my body
Keeping you alive
Too bad ya didn't want me
When it was just my mind

Chorus
It hit me harder
When you said you would call
I knew much better
Than to want you at all
But now I’m runnin my mouth with no way out feelin so small
I knew much better
I knew much better

Wanted to be your only one
Look at me now with this loaded gun
Bullets shot on an empty stage
I was too afraid to face

Lies up in my head now
keepin me awake
Things that I have to tell myself
Cause you could only take

Chorus
It hit me harder
When you said you would call
I knew much better
Than to want you at all
But now I’m runnin my mouth with no way out feelin so small
I knew much better
I knew much better

BRIDGE
I touched down to see your face
It was as lonely as this place
I’ve called home for too damn long
But I can’t seem to shake the shame
But I know that you've moved
And don’t wanna a thing to do with me
Except to watch me bleed

Chorus
It hit me harder
When you said you would call
I knew much better
Than to want you at all
But now I’m runnin my mouth with no way out feelin so small
I knew much better
I knew much better

Awesome 👏 good to see this post got curied 😍

Thanks so much for listening!

Sounds great!

That was a wonderful performance. Nice music, great skills, great lyrics. It's all just perfect.

I'm an amateur pianist, I was looking for your combination of chords, I just couldn't pick it. It's beautiful. Well done @addiesworld.

Wow thank you so very much:) I mostly play by ear, so I’m still an amateur myself haha;) Thanks again for listening!

Nice! :) Reminds me of this song -

Oh man I love Ruth B! Forever ago I learned a cover of her song “lost boy”. She’s an amazing lyricist.

Just listened to your track 'Disaster' on soundcloud - I'm impressed.
Who is producing your EP?

Thank you SO much:) I produce with a local producer in my area, we’ve been friends for a very long time and he’s also an Audio engineer. Basically a music genius! His name is Harley Anderson

Where are you based?

Hey @danshawmusic. :) If you need a producer or sound engineer, to mix and master your originals, my best friend @edgarstudio is the guy to reach out to, he just mixed and mastered @isaria's new track, Come Follow Me, check it out here
https://steemit.com/dsound/@isaria/my-original-steemit-song-come-follow-me--exclusive-dsound-and-steemit-release
He can do any kind of music, especially acoustic is his expertise.
If you're interested and on Discord or Steemit.chat as well, we can talk more, I know he would love to work on your great voice

Hey @verbal-d :) Thanks so much for the offer but @edenmichelle produces and mixes all my stuff and I'm beyond happy with her work :)
If you friend would like to do a remix of an original track that'd be cool :)

You're very welcome, @edenmichelle is quite talented, I didn't know she did that as well, and being happy with the sound she creates with you is extremely important. You vouch for her work the same way I do for @edgarstudio so I already understand :)

He is looking for gigs to earn SBD and Steem,
So I'm trying to help expand his reach. If he did a remix to one of your songs, I am sure it would be great, he produces a lot of Neo, Soul, R&B, Acoustic, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Blues kind of tracks, sometimes electronic but still with a BoomBap, HipHop feel. If you think that'd be something you want to do with him to test out his skills, let me know.

Luz!! Holy cow thank you so much!:)

Self perfectionist will say "I could have done better" but this was more than sufficient. Wonderful performance @addiesworld, love the sounds you are creating

I have included you in my Judge's List For Week 74

@verbal-d thank you so much. I’m gonna keep creating and pushing myself! You are so amazing to help judge open mic, I’m sure it’s no easy task, and I’m honored that you’ve enjoyed my music:)

You are most welcome, it's definitely no easy task but it is inspiring work to say the least. Glad to give back how I can. :)
What's your Discord name and number please?

those are some powerful lyrics to go with your powerful and beautiful voice. well done ;9)

Haha hey thank you so much:)

very good.. there's a definite style you've developed here. I can hear that song with a big arrangement behind it ! I'd like to hear more.. do you have a soundcloud / etc ?

Wow thank you so much:) I do have a soundcloud! There isn’t much on it right now, but I am currently working on making an EP! But here is the link for my Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/addie-daines/disaster

thanks, I'll have a look tomorrow. If you want any feedback on your EP I'll give it a review :)

Wow, what an excellent voice you have, you really know that you like to be inspired by artists, because this song sounds a bit like "Sorry-Halsey" and "Hello-Adele", I hope you achieve great things, congratulations :D

Sorry by Halsey is literally in my top 5 favorite songs😭❤️ I love it so much. Thank you for listening!:) It means the world!

I also love that song, you're welcome, I'll always be waiting to hear your original compositions, keep it up.

You sing it girl! That is an awesome song!
