Oh NO, Oh Yes, ONO ...Ohh Yes!!!
It's been a long wait before the launch of the most awaited blockchain based social media ONO, which seemed to be the next generation of Facebook and was presented as the hybrid of Twitter, Telegram & Steem. After ONO's Chinese launch on Ethereum chain last April, I along with many others was waiting for the ONO's international launch on EOS chain since June. But we kept hearing one date after the other for its launch. I even joined their waiting list for the invite a couple of months back but didn't hear anything from them.
Earlier this week, I downloaded their Android app and signed up for their international version. But frankly, I was disappointed. Although the app was quite functional, sometimes a lot of hope around a product creates undue expectations in our minds. In initial days, the app was too slow to load and my wallet was also not synching to reflect the exact amount of Onots in it. But with time, the app has started functioning better.
Initially, a pathetic loading speed for ONO was a big turn off for me. But still I used to login every day to see if things has improved or not. Now I find it good enough to use it but I found another hurdle. Because of its very successful Chinese launch, it has acquired a huge Chinese user base in last 4 months. So I find almost all posts written in Chinese or Korean.
Of course, that's understandable but unfortunately, there is no way to translate those posts into a different language, which I could understand. So, I need to scroll a lot to find something interesting that's written in English. It's like diving into the deep sea in search of an oyster-pearl.
Therefore, I wrote my first post (in English) ranting about the absence of a translator tool for understanding all Chinese & Korean posts out there. Unexpectedly, the post received a lot of likes and comments on it. But none made any sense to me. You know why? Because ironically almost all of them were in Chinese or Korean!
Oh No! What an ONO!!! I think I need to wait for some while before my next login there.

Does it pay similar to steemit?
You get paid every 24 hours, even in 10 years you can get paid for a post, and you get paid for reblogging too if someone likes the reblog with your caption.
Can't say exactly similar. The major difference I think is that Steem has a system of meritocracy i.e. whales have more influence on payouts whereas in ONO system, democracy means equal rights to all. So one user equals one vote and all votes are equal. But its not just about votes there, even likes, comments, reposts or a daily login counts.

No, I don't think so. There are over dozen comments and all are real people. In fact, ONO sign up is based on your mobile number verification.

ONO is very cool and even though it is still in pre-alpha test mode, I can tell it will be a game changer for artists and comics creators like myself.
Yeah, I too am hopeful. Let's see how it goes.
FB is already tyrannical what concerns privacy, I would seriously question how much more tyrannical a chinese app would be.
I would not even touch that app with a stick.

Steemit. As a public social platform. For now I doubt there is any social platform that is well developed enough to be safe for creating a private space to share more intimate and private details about your life with those people that you allow as friends as in FB to view your profile.
All of the platforms I know, are based on the principle that it is your very data that creates the funds to keep those platforms running and inherently that will never allow for true privacy and safety of your more personal and confidential information.
This is the number one reason why most of the free service providers, ask to have such unlimited access to your mobile devices, even to the point that phone microphones listen on our convos even when they shouldnt be recording and using that data for targeted ads.
All these "free" services do not cost cash, but information which they exchange for cash with governments and corporations.
If someone created a possibility of safe private spaces on steemit that somehow links accounts through a similar access key as one uses to login etc, I could imagine you could develop a secure platform for such uses like creating a social media site, which allows for more intimate exchanges with other close friends and people one knows or connects with.
But you use steemit where all your data is public?
@street.yoga It is my responsibility what I choose to post. It is public anywhere. And since I am not much into posting too much of my private life, just my art and music mostly. I can handle that it is public, after all everything I post is done so that it can be public.
On the other hand, FB is designed in a manner that they want you to share as much about your private life as possible, and they do so for the very purpose of collecting that data and profiting of it while at the same time making sure to censor or diminish ones reach if your material is not kosher enough.
There are many fine lines of difference between FB,STEEMIT and others.
That fine line of difference is sometimes a very important and critical difference. Steemit is all public it doesnt give me the illusion I have some sort of private space in which my data is safe.
For example on FB that illusion is purposeful so that one carelessly divulges as much possible information as possible. + They have laws that gives them rights over any material you post on the platform so that they may reuse it for whatever purpose they see fit. Steemit doesn´t do that. That is A MAJOR DIFFERENCE:
I can prepare you a hamburger from top notch organic ingredients, and one that is from some cesspit location where all ingredients come from the shabbiest, pesticide laden farm ever, with cows that have never seen sunlight.
Both are Hamburgers. Both are worlds and worlds apart from each other.
I agree with your statements regarding FB. Regarding ONO, well, you can set posts to private and verify through KYC for longer articles, the data being stored on ipfs. I guess that is what concerns you. But you will also be able to collapse your own articles in the future which is kind of a delete function which steemit does not have when 7 days pass.
