One Photo Every Day; 264/365, Old friends and orchids, เพื่อนเก่ากับกล้วยไม้, the OPED project.

Yesterday was a very nice Sunday, I got back to swimming for the first time in three years.

It took me some time to find my swimming gears: swimming suit, goggles and ear plucks. My friends have renovated and rebuilt some parts of their old house so they decided to have a swimming pool built at the back of the house. This was a wise decision as regular swimming has made my friend losing weight and become quite active. I was invited to go swimming as often as I wanted but that means about an hour’s drive. So, I said I would do this once a month.

This family is one of the old style Thai families whereby they would live together in the same compound. So, there are several families’ houses and a big car park in the area. The whole family’s members have known me for more than ten years. Nowadays, all the small nieces and nephews have grown up and been to colleges. The eldest one has become a pilot. I haven’t seen them for a long time. So, this reunion was quite a shock to me that nothing is permanent! My friend’s brothers look much older, their children are now teenagers with their own private worlds. My friend has known me since my college days in England. So, it was wonderful that we could get connected again after years of absence.

We had several old stories to laugh about and I told her a funny story about our mutual friend. The laughter was so loud that everyone inside the houses were startled! Luckily, we both don’t smoke so we couldn’t be high on weeds. I have to congratulate myself that I did not forget how to swim and I did about 800 meters in length on Sunday. My friend also gave me two purple orchids and assorted colours of perfumed orchids to take home.

วันอาทิตย์นี้เราได้รับเชิญไปว่ายน้ำที่บ้านเพื่อน เราไม่ได้ว่ายน้ำมาอย่างน้อยสามปี ทำให้ใช้เวลาหาเครื่องมือการว่ายน้ำ แว่นกันน้ำก็เหลือง ที่อุดหูกันน้ำและ ชุดกางเกงเสื้อยืดที่ยังใหม่เอี่ยม เพื่อนได้ซ่อมแซมบ้านใหม่ก็เลยตัดสินใจ สร้างสระว่ายนํ้าเล็กๆที่หลังบ้าน ซึ่วเป็นการตัดสินใจที่ดีมาก ทำให้เพื่อนเราลดนำ้หนักได้กลายกิโล และร่างกายกระฉับกระเฉงมากขึ้น เพื่อนชวนให้เราไปว่ายนํ้าที่บ้านบ่อยๆ แต่บ้านเธอไกลจากเราโดยใช้เวลาเดินทางหนึ่งชั่งโมง เราบอกว่าเดือนละครั้งกำลังดี

ครอบครัวเพื่อนเหมือนคนไทยสมัยก่อน ที่ทุกคนอยู่ในบริเวณบ้านเดียวกัน แล้วมีบ้านหลังเล็กๆของแต่ละครอบครัวในรั้วเดียวกัน. เรารู้จักเพื่อนเราตั้งแต่เราอยู่เมืองนอก ทำให้ทุกคนในบ้านรู้จักเรามากว่าสิบปี การได้เจอกันครั้งนี้ ทำให้เราตระหนักถึงความเปลี่ยนแปลง. และความไม่แน่นอนของสรรพสิ่ง พี่ชายและน้องชายของเพื่อน ดูเป็นคนสูงอายุมากขึ้น และพวกหลานๆก็โตเป็นหนุ่มสาว เป็นวัยรุ่นที่มีโลกส่วนตัวของตนเองมากขึ้น โชคดีที่เพื่อนเราออกกำลังกายและว่ายน้ำทุกวัน จึงดูดีและมีสุขภาพดีด้วย

เราดีใจที่ไม่ลืมวิธีการว่ายนํ้า และเราว่ายนํ้าได้ทำระยะทาง ประมาณแปดร้อยเมตร นํ้ากำลังเย็นสบาย แดดอ่อนตอนบ่ายๆ. เรามีเรื่องตลกๆ ในอดีตมาเล่าสู่กันฟังที่ริมสระว่ายน้ำ เรื่องตลกเรื่องหนึ่งทำให้เพื่อนหัวเราะดังสนั่นหวั่นไหว. ทุกคนในบ้านได้ยินกัน โชคดีที่เราไม่สูบบุหรี่หรืออย่างอื่น ไม่อย่างนั้นคนอาจจะคิดว่าเมากัน ก่อนกลับเรายังได้ต้นกล้วยไม้เป็นของขวัญ มีกล้วยไม้ดอกสีม่วงสองต้น และกล้วยไม้คละสี ตระกูลช้างอีกหกต้น คงต้องไปลุ้นว่าต้นไหนออกดอกสีอะไรในอนาคต
