DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GIVING UP?

So as a lot of people know we have a You Tube channel. On our channel we share our lives with people and show them how we live off grid with children. We also show how we try to homestead as well. If that is something that you find interesting you can find our channel here. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt42TtLbpp5CR7QmRx7wHRA

But onto what this post is about. We get all kinds of comments and e-mails telling us how great what we are doing is, people love our channel, and it is their dreams to live the way that we do and they are going to do it. Now don’t get me wrong I love living this type of life style. I love the freedom of not having to pay a monthly electric or water bill. But I have to ask the ones that want to live like this DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GIVING UP?
It is a sad truth that a lot of people that want to live this type of live are still not willing to give up all the really nice things they have in there house. If you want to live this life of being off the grid meaning you supply all of your electrical need, you supply your own water, and you take care of your own trash and sewage waste. There are some things that you have to have in mind.

ONE: If you don’t have the money up front you are not going to be able to buy a big system to run every thing you have in your house now.

TWO: You will probably have to get rid of a lot of your electrical appliances. For example if you have a kitchen aid it won’t do you much good off grid. They take a lot of power to run.

THREE: A lot of people that live this way will not tell you but someone has to. Of you live in an area that gets a lot of rain or you have a lot of cloudy days you will not be pulling in a lot of power if you have solar. So you will need to buy a generator and I would recommend a large one because that thing is going to become your best friend.

FOUR: You have to make sure that you are in the right mindset! Believe it or not this is a big life style change! I have seen a few people try to live like this and they thought it was what they really wanted. But sadly they had to give it up because they felt it was to hard for them.

It’s a little know fact that we as people are creatures of comfort. Ripping all your comforts away and trying to jump into this life style is not a smart thing to do. You have to prepare your self first. You would just go out one day and try to learn to breathe under water with out scuba gear first right.

Don’t get me wrong here I think this is a great life. I encourage people to do it if you know you are ready. I am not trying to discourage anyone from trying this. I just want to give you a heads up going in to this life style. I don’t want to see anyone else have to give up on their dreams because they didn’t realize how difficult it was in the beginning. But I can tell you this if you are willing to see it threw it will and does get easier.

Now I would love to hear from you all! Do you think what I said is true for new people going off grid? What was the hardest thing at first for you all that are off grid?
