My Favourites of 1980's Obscure Baseball Players Round 1
My favourite obscure baseball player from the 1980s is Rolando Roomes. He played for the Reds in the late 1980s, I saw him once at a game in Chicago the fans in the bleachers really gave him the business in right field. The poor guy really took his fair share from the bums of the bleachers.
Another really fun in Damaso Garcia, he played also on some horrid Braves teams.

No random 1980s team can be without a catcher. So many to choose from, but one I like is Mackey Sasser. Came up with the Mets in the later 80s, was a really good player, really good hitter, but forgot how to throw and wandered the minors for a while and then didn't make it back.

A Cub oscure player I liked when he played for them in the 1980s was Jeff Pico. He is now a pitching coach somewhere I think.

I really liked Mark Grace in the 1980s, he was my favorite player. Haha I remember Roomes, I think he played with the Cubs at one point even. One of my favorite obscure 1980s players was Ozzie Virgil. Always liked the name, he played on some horrid Atlanta Braves teams.

Another one is Doug Dascenzo for the cubs. Scrappy little outfielder that pitched a few times, pretty funny. He's in someone's farm system fairly high as a coach last I knew.

Somebody that was not that obscure but had a really cool nickname was Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd. Apparently he had a pitbull that developed a taste for liquor. You have to respect that!

Here's a few more...I liked Ken Schrom. He played with the Indians back in the 80s on some really bad teams. That and I got one of his baseball seemingly in every pack of baseball cards I got back then.

A guy who had one of the coolest names of the 1980s is a player I don't remember watching, just saw his baseball card, his name was Razor Shines, and he played for the Expos at one point. Pretty sure he wasn't a regular but he had a perfect show name.

Here is one that has some family playing big time football--speedster Gary Pettis, he and otis nixon are the two burners that went obscure a little bit during that time.

Another player I really liked that is again, yes a cub was Gary Varsho. He once signed an autograph for us before the game, my first in person autograph. He has a son Daulton Varsho, named after his former teammate Darren Daulton.
