OCD is back in action & some more information on the OCD-bot
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to let you all know that OCD is back at curating undervalued newcomers that write original content!
We had a short break to reasses and are now back at it again. There are quite a few things going on in the background with OCD that I wanted to talk about as well and let the community know.
OCD-bot will soon be finished and running.
The purpose of this bot is to support all unique authors that have been nominated by the OCD team so far, currently over 800 people. The list of those users can be found here if you want to check if you are one of them!
The bot will be a non-profit bot, meaning that all curation rewards earned on it will be sent back 100% to the people delegating. I will also be sacrificing my own curation rewards in order to increase the curation rewards of the OCD-bot by voting after it.
Manual curators have been encouraged for some time now to front-run my votes on nominations by the OCD team for increased curation rewards and knowing they are going to the right place and people. If you have not been aware of this, all you have to do is either vote on the @ocd compilation posts before 30 minutes and/or vote on the nominations inside the posts which will be voted by me usually a day after giving everyone enough time to look through them and curate. It doesn't matter how much of your daily voting percentage you place into them, knowing that that percentage will have increased curation rewards with my votes following. @miniature-tiger wrote a great analysis on the potential curation rewards you can earn by voting on the @ocd posts and nominations which can be found here.
The bot will be voting at the 30 minute mark on all active authors from the list, while attempting to keep a healthy voting percentage depending on the activity. It will need some adjusting for the first couple of weeks until we find an equilibrium. In the meantime more and more authors will be added to the list weekly. There have also been some plans to vote in a reversed way compared to the busy.org bot that votes on everyone writing through busy.org and places votes depending on the SP of the followers that user has, we are thinking of voting higher if you have less followers to encourage a healthy growth of the accounts. This will probably be step 2 of the bots functions to be updated at a later time.
We are also thinking about adding some liquid Steem to the bot so it can send out full curation rewards on a weekly basis to the delegatees while powering down to keep it going. The liquids would decrease the complexity of delegatees having to wait several power downs to receive their full curation rewards earned that week.
We believe that not only will this bot help discourage users from buying votes from middlemen services earning on each purchase, but it will also encourage users from voting more manually and focusing their votes on a wider range of authors and newcomers. Autovote services will have a hard time front-running these authors as they will be new ones daily, even if they somehow manage to do that - the votes will be spread to a wide userbase which is a lot different than it is working right now where they only vote on popular users they know are going to trend for maximized curation rewards.
If you have any questions about the bot or any suggestions on how to improve it, please let us know here in the comment section.
Thank you for reading!
This is beautiful. This is exactly how neutral bots should operate. Initiatives like this are the best possible counter to possible user churn. The chain of rewarding those who hold most already should be broken. The blockchain itself already exponentially rewards those Steemians more.
Inclusive grassroots rewards are what will grow the bottom of the middle class and keep the platform healthy. Unless being a Washington alike swamp is our end goal.
I completely agree with this. I came to comment specifically about it. It doesn't make ANY sense to reward people who have already grown.
I will say that perhaps we need to pay attention to people who might just be moving there money directly out of Steem to sell.
I could see us supporting someone who just sells all of their Steem.
Is this something specific that we need to worry about?
Agreed!
Really looking forward to this bot, sounds like a very good thing for the newer / lower repped users.
This is such a refreshing change from the approach taken by the pay-for-vote bots. As a Steemit user, I really appreciate OCD's emphasis on curating quality content, which will increase the overall value of the platform. Reversing things from the busy.org approach means that the curation rewards from OCD will avoid a Pareto power law distribution (i.e., rich authors getting richer). Distributing the wealth more equitably will help more people profit, creating a multiplier effect for the Steem economy. And @acidyo never ceases to impress, giving up the potential for personal profit and donating his curation rewards for the good of the project. That's commitment.
This sounds really good. I'm fairly new on steemit, but have been overwhelmed by people wanting me to pay them to upvote me. Thank you.
This is good, I couldn't make it to the list but I will keep posting as much as possible.
Yo man! nice to see all the @ocd people again and with that rocking bot. And by the way, the streaming curation we ran at @curazao project is in order to collaborate to whatever @ocd or you need to be involved. As everybody knows... your and the Ocd team curation work was and is very important to feed this sea.
Hello mate! How I wish there were some more amazing people here on the platform! This OCD bot is for me the best innovation till now on Steemit for content creators!
Who else apart you can think of creating a bot without making any profit for yourself!
Thanks so much for this and I am so happy to be part of the 800!
Cheers!
Totally agree!
If anyone ever questions what you are trying to do to help this platform all they have to do is look at statements like this:
Who else is doing this? It would be real easy for you to just use your SP to upvote only your own stuff and make sure to vote before everyone else to get the highest curation rewards. Thanks so much for all you do, so happy to be a part of OCD!
Thanks @mk40, really great to have you on the team!
You are doing an amazing job. I solute you sir. Steemit needs more men like you. So that 'whales monopoly' as some people describe it, can be broken. hats off to you .....
I want to say thanks to the OCD team.. This is really an amazing project.. This project will inspire new authors to write original contents... What I liked most is... Voting higher if someone has less followers to encourage a healthy growth of the account.. Keep doing good work.. All the best!
