Connotation based language and meaning based language

in #observations7 years ago

This is a translation from a blog I wrote back in 2008. The blog was called: Reality is a theory.
The posts in it were short like this one. Usually every post had only one idea.

There are two different ways to use language. One is connotation based, where you use words because of feelings and connotation they bring up. Words are just rewards or punishments. It doesnt matter is they are true. You just use them in an attempt to make someone feel good or bad. "Yes you look good in that dress"

Second way is meaning based. You use words in their true meaning. Regardless of how it makes people feel in that moment. "No that dress doesnt make you look fat. You make you look fat by being lazy and hedonistic woman past her prime"

The meaning based language users see the connotation based language users as inaccurate, stupid or even dishonest. The connotation based see the meaning based as cold and autistic. Most people use both, but I believe most people have a preference to one or the other.
