Palm wine tree is as old as the creation itself. It is a raw material for series of finished goods. Nothing in it is a waste, starting from the root to the fronds. It grows predominantly in Africa, and maybe, in other parts of the world.
But one outstanding thing about this tree is the liquid it produces. This liquid known as "palm wine" is medicinal, most importantly rich in vitamin A which is a better agent of good eye sight in humans. It contains water and alcohol which can equally intoxicate if taken in high quantity.
After fermentation, it can be fractionally distilled to produce other alcoholic drinks. Sometimes, most of these drinks we have today are highly synthetic in the sense that, other additives are added to improve on the tastes, colour or flavour. A typical natural palm wine cannot have adverse effects compared to the kinds of distilled drinks we have today all over the world. Hence, take a walk to a nearby village in southern Nigeria, ask for a professional palm wine tapper, let him give you a treat of nature.
