How much Water should one Drink a Day? Well it Depends.

Water is essential to good health; however, the amount taken varies with an individual. Water is a significant chemical component in the human body, and it makes up to about 60 per cent of the body-weight. Therefore, the body needs water to survive, but the-need depends on factors like exercise, overall personal health, environment, and state of a person for instance Pregnancy or breast feeding (Mayo, 2007). Thus, understanding one’s body need for fluids will help evaluate the amount of water to drink every day.

Health specialist advises people to consider drinking 8-ounce glasses of water which is a reasonable goal as water controls most of the person metabolic system. Every organ, tissue, and cells in the human body need the fluid to function correctly (Ben, 2017). For example, water help to get rid of wastes through urination, bowel movement, moderate body temperature, and manage sensitive tissues. Water deficiency can lead to dehydration a condition that follows when one lack enough fluid to perform Normal functions.

Every day a person loses water through perspiration, breath, urine and bowel movement. For the Body to recover from the lost fluid, one should replenish the supply by consuming food that contains water and beverages (Jen, 2015). Research has proofed that if an individual hydration reduces by about 5%, it results to in 25% energy drop. Being hydrated by drinking fluids always improves the energy level (Carroll, 2015). Therefore, it is advisable to consume eight glasses of water every day to cater to essential Body operations.

However, it is not a must that one should drink the prescribed eight glasses of water a-day. For healthy adults, water intake is suitable when one experiences thirst or when the urine colour turns yellow or colourless. A person fluid intake increases especially when exercising to replace the lost electrolytes through perspiration. Consequently, eight glasses of water will not be enough for an overweight person and for an underweight individual the amount will be more (Oakley & Baird, 2015). Also, the rate of drinking water usually decreases during humid condition, and it is not possible for the person to consume the indicated amount. Therefore, the amount of water that one should drink will depend on the person’s body type, choices, thirst, and the environmental condition either hot or cold.
