Take omega-3 fatty acids to maintain the brain

**The** human brain is made up of nearly 60% *Omega-3 fatty acid* makes up almost half of them. Brain tissue is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. An estimated 8% of brain matter is composed of Omega-3 fatty acids. It is important for normal structure and function of the human brain. Omega-3 fatty acids facilitate the communication between brain cells in order for the nerve impulse to pass from one neuron to another they need to get through the cell membrane that surrounds the neuron. Omega-3 fatty acids keep this outer membrane more flexible making it easier for signals to cross the gap between brain cells. Omega-3s also increase the production of vital neurotransmitters and reduce oxidative and inflammatory damage in the brain after injury. A specific Omega-3 fatty acid called *Docosahexaenoic acid* (DHA) is a major structural component of the cerebral cortex. It is a brain area responsible for memory, creativity, emotion and attention. Individuals with low levels of DHA have measurably smaller brains. DHA accounts for 97% of the Omega-3 fatty acids found in the brain. Another important Omega-3 fatty acid is called *Eicosapentaenoic acid* (EPA). EPA promotes healthy blood flow to the brain, which improves its function, omega-3s accumulate in the human brain during foetal development. It is crucial for brain growth and development in infants. ![image]() Omega-3s can fight against age-related mental decline. Low levels of omega-3s accelerate brain ageing and cause deficits in brain function. Omega-3s deficiency increases the risk of developing neurological conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia. Omega-3s are considered essential fatty acids because human body can't make them, you have to get these fatty acids in your diet. Fish, fish oil and other seafoods are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids it is also found in plant oils such as flaxseed oil, soybean oil and canola oil. Flaxseed, chia seeds and walnuts also contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 oils are commonly found in capsules or softgels. Children of mothers who take omega-3s supplements during pregnancy have higher intellectual ability and better social skills. They are less likely to develop ADHD, autism or cerebral palsy. Omega-3s supplements can reduce the symptoms of ADHD in children, resulting in improved attention and reduced hyperactivity and aggression. Omega-3 fatty acids also have been found helpful for major depressive disorders....
