Charcoal Drawing - Portrait
Hello guys!
Welcome to my block.
You can see her work through IG: Mayela Raga
(Free advertising) Haha!
- Mechanical Pencil.
- HB Leads.
- Charcoal Pencil Soft and Medium.
- Brush.
- Diffuser.
- Moldable Eraser.
- Cotton Swabs.
- A4 Opaline 180G.
- As always I start making an initial sketch, it's funny because I always put the picture of the sketch but it does not look very clear hahaha.
-I started by illustrating his right eye, bordering with a charcoal pencil and with the brush and brush, he spread the grits to make the shadow of the eyes, add small details to make the effect of the skin, this is very laborious.
I made the eyelashes and eyebrows using the very fine charcoal mine, taking into account the dark and clear areas in the eyes.
One of her eyes looks bigger but it's not a problem, later I'll adjust itStain a separate paper with charcoal strokes, simulating a palette of oils to take a little with the brush and thus illustrate the tone of the skin and its shadows. I use a round tip brush since its brush strokes are softer and stain less, allowing me to adjust the right tone.
I illustrate a part of the hair to find meaning to the face, I made strokes with a pen without ink to mark the paper, so when I made the strokes with charcoal will be marked white hairs, this simulates light hair and impacted by light
Once having the base of the hair I can already shade the face a little more.
I made the shadows of hair, nose, and cheeks.
- The most difficult part of illustrating this face are the lips, I wanted to make them exactly the same because if I did a bad detail completely changed the face, and that was what happened to me on the previous occasions.
With charcoal illustrate the dark marks of the lips, soften them and with the moldable eraser, I gave volume to the marks.
- With the lips already made, I could illustrate the remaining shadows of the face and thus be able to give a better effect to the grimace, I finished the hair using the same technique and began to illustrate her hand.
Finally finish the illustration and be very dissatisfied.

I understand you perfectly @kendrawing, many times I spend a lot of time making a drawing and it turns out that in the end I am dissatisfied to the point that I do not see it anymore and I abandon it forever or in rare occasions I started again until I was happy with the result, it is more work but I think that things should be done well and even more in a portrait of a person... your portrait is amazing, I do not know Mayela Raga but from what I see in your portrait is a very beautiful girl.
Amazing work!!!
Whenever a drawing I get wrong I leave it, but lately, I've been taking them back and when I finish them I feel very satisfied, so do not let me win!
She is a professional makeup artist who lives in Spain, I met her by Instagram and we agreed for her to make a portrait. Her work is magnificent!
Yes! I think that also is a great ability, to be able to fix something if it is wrong and finish, I hope to learn to do it.
Your friend is very cute @kendrawing!

Wow this is dope mehn. I dont fancy drawing with charcoal becsuse it stains often Instead I prefer drawing with graphite or pen.
But your work is amazing and inspiring. It's telling me "Boiii go and grab your charcoal and start work".
I've got a question. Did you use ntopaz site to make this post?
Hi bro! At the beginning I got very dirty with the drawings, then I learned to work with charcoal pencils, I managed to find some that are pastel, the brand is "Pointer" they are much cleaner, although those that mess up I keep using them to make hair or draw more rustic things, you just have to familiarize yourself.
Also, I use gloves that protect the dirt from the drawing area and paper linings so that I can not stain the work, clean a lot with the moldable eraser and a small vacuum cleaner when there is a lot of dust.
with respect to the other question, yes, I use the Ntopaz platform, I edit my posts in Steemit and I copy everything to ntopaz, after the post is published I return to edit, since I put many characters and sometimes the post is cut.
I hope I've helped!
Good tips. For now using of charcoal will be future things not now. Looks hectic to me. Enjoy your technique to the fullest.
Someone suggested the nTopaz stuff for me and I tried navigating their platform but it was difficult. I think I will try your editing pattern.
