Salè, un'antica repubblica corsara.

Questa cittadina portuale fu infatti patria nel XVII secolo dei Salee Rovers, i corsari di Salè, guidati dal pirata olandese Jan Janszoon. Venne proclamata repubblica nel 1624 direttamente dal sultano che ne riconobbe l'indipendenza e la forza dopo un assedio non riuscito. Avevano un flotta composta da 18 vascelli che solcavano i mari e divennero famosi in tutta l'Europa e l'America tanto che lo scrittore Daniel Defoe si ispirò proprio a loro nel suo famosissimo romanzo Robinson Crusoe pubblicato nel 1719.

[ENG] The Hotel des Oudaias where we arrived immediately offered us a wonderful view from the terrace. In fact it was exactly in front of the ocean with a view of the ancient Kasbah and of the river that separates the city from

Salè, an ancient corsair republic.

This port town was in fact the home of the Salee Rovers in the 17th century, the corsairs of Salé, led by the Dutch pirate Jan Janszoon. In 1624 it was proclaimed a republic directly by the sultan, who recognized his independence and strength after an unsuccessful siege. They had a fleet of 18 vessels that sailed the seas and became famous throughout Europe and America so much that the writer Daniel Defoe took inspiration from them in his very famous novel Robinson Crusoe published in 1719.

[ITA] Dopo il tramonto sulla terrazza era ora di andare a cena e così abbiamo seguito il consiglio della Lonely e siamo andate a mangiare in un ristorante nella medina economico e molto buono. Una medina ordinata, pulita e con degli angolini interessanti.

[ENG] After sunset on the terrace it was time to have dinner and so we followed Lonely's advice and went to eat in a restaurant in the cheap and very good medina. An ordered medina, clean and with interesting corners.
