Nostalgias (Tango)

This wonderful theme, which has travelled the world and integrated the repertoire of singers and instrumentalists of all genres and languages, was created in 1936 by Juan Carlos Cobián and it is worth recreating the story of his birth, told by the author of the lyrics himself: Enrique Cadícamo.
-The businessman of the Smart Theater, Mr. Alberto Ballerini, had commissioned me a comedy with tango intermingled, which two weeks later ended with the title "El cantor de Buenos Aires".
Cobián had come at a very opportune time to collaborate on it. We looked together at the libretto to bring out the cantables and solos of music that were gone and that had to be written. Two days later we listened to them with the businessman, who approved them all, observing only one of the tangos because he found it unpopular in a novel and inspired cadence that carried the saying; in fact, Cobián had lost his hand in this one, which I had titled Nostalgias.
Then I asked him to suppress the cadence that seemed to me very original but difficult for Roberto Páez, who was the singer of the work.
Cobián, with modesty - the genre of pride that is less unpleasant - replied smiling:
-I'll make him another one.... that one stays as it is....
The orientation of this master always surprised the vulgar spirits, but anticipated the renewal of tango. From one day to the next he composed a new theme to which I adapted the lyrics, titling them with the same name of the work: "El cantor de Buenos Aires". As for the other one, entitled Nostalgias, it was for the best opportunity..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................
And this is the song I bring you today with my mandolin.
